Jaden (July 8, 1998) and Willow Smith (October 31, 2000) were born to actors and singers Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. Both were born and raised in California and have a half-brother Trey Smith from Will Smith’s previous relationship.

Getting famous

Willow and Jaden Smith started acting early age. Jaden Smith had his small screen debut at the age of 5 in his parents’ sitcom All Of Us (2003 -2004), Willow Smith had her big screen debut in Will Smith starring I Am Legend in 2007, at the age of 7.

Acting comes naturally to the guys as both their parents are actors. Likewise, both Willow and Jaden have a flair for singing as Will Smith had his career start as a rapper, and Jada Pinkett Smith once toured the country as part of a metal band. Willow Smith is now famous as a rising pop star while the 10 year old girl still claims that her major goal is acting and it’s what she eventually hopes to focus on. “I love acting. It fulfils my whole career,” Willow Smith told Ellen DeGeneres in November 2010. “I would go on tour with [mom and dad] and watch them and I’d be like, ‘Oh my gosh, that’s what I wanna do,'” she added about her love of music. “Mommy and Daddy inspired me to be a performer,” Willow told W Magazine in December 2010. “I get my flow from Daddy, my singing ability from Mommy, and the camera stuff from both. That’s just what happens when you hang out with the Smiths!”

Jaden Smith

After making his TV debut in All Of Us, Jaden’s next big project was The Pursuit Of Happyness where he played son of his real-life dad Will Smith. Jaden’s big screen debut was praised by critics bringing him among others, the Best Breakthrough Performance award.

Jaden next appeared in The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody and played one of the lead parts in The Day The Earth Stood Still in 2008.

Willow Smith

Willow had her first movie role in dad-starring I Am Legend playing his daughter. Her next movie Kit Kittredge: An American Girl brought her the best performance in feature film award at 2009 Young Artist Awards.

International success

Willow Smith

Willow Smith got on everyone’s lips with her debut single ‘Whip My Hair’ released in October 2010. The song became the highest debut for a new artist on Billboard’s Hot Digital Song Chart as well as reached the #1 spot on iTunes video chart. ‘Whip My Hair’ video became a viral sensation and the #1 watched video on YouTube in October/ November 2010. The song also peaked at #11 on Billboard Hot 100, the highest position a newcomer had ever taken.

The same month her song was released, Willow Smith signed a record deal with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

Many music experts and fans compare Willow Smith’s music style to that of Rihanna.
WILLOW SMITH VS. RIHANNA

Willow Smith had her first ever performance at Dick Clark’s Annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve celebrations in December 2010. The same month she announced her first ever big gig as a support act on Justin Bieber’s European Tour starting in March 2011.

Jaden Smith

Jaden became a global movie star in 2010 after starring in The Karate Kid, a remake of the 1984’s movie. Thanks to the movie Jaden also had a chance to show off his singing skills, rapping in The Karate Kid soundtrack, ‘Never Say Never’, performed by Justin Bieber. Jaden also appeared in the video for the song.

Jaden’s other projects include Amulet (2009) where he co-stars with his no less famous sister Willow.

Jaden was ranked #9 on top 10 highest grossing actors 2010.

Willow Smith is going to release her debut album in 2011. Willow’s debut single and the first single off the album ‘Whip My Hair’ is “basically I’m me”, the young performer said. “I’m doing what I want to do,” Willow said about the ‘Whip My Hair’ concept. “I wanted to make a difference now, (and) because I wanted to be big and famous like my mommy and daddy and help people,” Smith added talking about her main goal as an artist.

Willow says her music style is “punk rock meets preppy” noting that her music is inspired by Billy Idol and Lady GaGa. “[Billy Idol’s] is really tight [while Lady GaGa] is really nice. She’s really awesome because she cares about everybody and she writes songs about herself and everybody.” “I like the way Billy Idol sings. Mommy turned me on to him. And I like Lady Gaga’s songs,” Willow Smith told W Magazine in December 2010 issue.

When speaking about her debut album, Willow told Elle‘s May 2011 Women In Music issue: “It’s going to be a party beat. I think you’re gonna like it!”

Willow’s new song ‘Rockstar’ became available for online preview around Christmas 2010. The song was said to be included into Willow’s debut album but there was no word if the song would become the second single off the album.

’21st Century Girl’, the official second single off Willow’s debut album, was premiered on February 28, 2011. “It’s a dance record. I know you love to dance,” the girl said.
