Two ‘Avatar’ sequels coming in 2014 and 2015

It’s confirmed! Avatar is getting back on big screen in 2014 and 2015 with two sequels planned to be released.

The 20th Century Fox revealed the happy news yesterday adding that James Cameron had signed to direct both movies.

In his statement released Wednesday James Cameron said the two sequels would continue to “explore [Avatar’s] themes and characters, which touched the hearts of audiences in all cultures around the world” but would be “self contained stories that also fulfill a greater story arc.”

According to the studio, Cameron will start shooting the movies in late 2011 as soon as the scripts are ready.

James hinted at a possible storyline of the sequel. He said he wanted to explore the underwater world of Pandora. These are gonna be very beautiful 3D movies!

Jon Landau (Titanic, Avatar) will produce the two sequels saying the new movies will continue James Cameron’s vision of the world, creatures and stories he created in the first part of Avatar released in December 2009 to become the highest-grossing movie and the fastest selling DVD of all time.

I’m very very very excited about the new Avatar movies. I’m still impressed by the first movie and really think it’s my favorite flick of all time.

FYI, James Cameron first talked about the Avatar sequel in January this year, saying that not having a sequel “would be a waste”:

I’ve had a storyline in mind from the start – there are even scenes in Avatar that I kept in because they lead to the sequel,” James Cameron told Entertainment Weekly. “It just makes sense to think of it as a two or three film arc, in terms of the business plan.”
