Sacha Baron Cohen as Saddam Hussein-like Dictator

Forget Ali G, Borat and Bruno, Sacha Baron Cohen’s new character is more controversial than all of them – it’s Saddam Hussein-inspired Islamic leader trying to start a new life in New York City in the new movie The Dictator.

Sacha is currently filming scenes in New York with the movie set to premiere next May.

The Dictator is loosely based on Zabibah and the King, a romantic novel written by Saddam Hussein and published anonymously in 2000. In the book a “benevolent” dictator (Saddam Hussein) is replaced by the goat herder lookalike who now has to rule the country while the real king moves to New York and tries to find a new meaning in life there. In the Big Apple he meets and falls in love with the beautiful girl named Zabibah, who’s married to a cruel rapist husband.

Actress Anna Faris will play Cohen’s love interest in the movie, portraying an organic store owner. The film will also star Ben Kingsley and Jason Mantzoukas. Borat and Bruno’s helmer Larry Charles will direct The Dictator.

The movie is set for May 11, 2012 release.
