On the edge of my seat: Alice in Wonderland
I don’t think I’ll be able to wait till March 5, 2010! I’m dying to watch the new adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland!
The newly arrived photos prove the scale, madness, brilliance and oddness of Tim Burton’s latest creation.
A mix of garish costumes, surreal make up and digital technologies creates the original world of Carroll’s story.
Alice is played by a young Australian actress Mia Wasikowsky, 19.
We met a lot of people, but she just had that certain kind of emotional toughness, standing her ground in a way that makes her kind of an older person with a younger person’s mentality,” director Tim Burton said.
In the new adaptation, Alice will be a bit older than the classic character. In the movie Alice is 17 and finds it difficult to live in the Victorian age society.
She’s about to get proposed in front of a crowd of people in the garden. She flees from the party and follows the White Rabbit (Michael Sheen) down a hole and into Wonderland.
The first she meets are twins Tweedledee and Tweedledum palyed by British actor and Little Britain star Matt Lucas. His body was digitally altered to look egg-shaped.
The brothers then take Alice to the Mad Hatter played by Johhny Depp. With red hair, mad yellow eyes and bright make up, you can easily confuse him with Elijah Wood.
This character is off his rocker. He is so much fun and so nutty, I can’t imagine anyone else doing it,” producer Richard Zanuck told USA Today.
Along her journey Alice meets White Queen played by Anne Hathaway who looks like an elf from Lord of The Rings with her blonde locks, porcelain white skin and dark lips. White Queen is described as “beautiful but over the top. She doesn’t walk. She floats. She’s very eccentric.”
She’s cute, but psycho. Things even out,” Anne said.
White Queen is overthrown by her sister Red Queen played by Burton’s wife, Helena Bonham Carter.
Carter’s head was digitally enhanced swelled to represent the queen’s enormous ego. Crying “Off with their heads!” Red Queen turns peaceful Wonderland into the world of fear and madness, sources report.
So “the creatures are ready to revolt and waiting for Alice to help them,” Zanuck explains.
The film also stars Christopher Lee as the Jabberwock, Rickman as the Caterpiller, Fry as the Cheshire Cat and Crispin Glover as the Knave of Hearts.
The film is out March 5, 2010 in 3D.
Love the cast! Love the movie! Can’t wait to see it!
Tell me how much you are excited about the new Alice in Wonderland!
