Dear John overthrows Avatar in box office

I don’t really think any of box office analysts could ever predict that a romantic drama would get the first spot in the North American box office that has been occupied by the sci-fi super movie Avatar for the last seven weeks.

But looks like people prefer humans to the Navi giants, especially if these humans are Amanda Seyfried and Channing Tatum starring in Dear John.

Dear John has gained an estimated $32.4 million during Super Bowl weekend while Avatar’s come second with $23.6 million.

We felt right from the beginning that we had something with this picture. But I don’t think anybody could have anticipated that it would do this well,” Rory Bruer from Sony, said.

Movie experts believe Dear John has become such a box office success due to its successful marketing towards female audiences.
