Gwyneth Paltrow’s ‘Country Strong’ is inspired by Britney Spears’ shaven-head era

Shane Feste, writer/ director of Country Strong, the new movie about an alcoholic country singer getting back on music track, has said she’s based her movie and its lead character (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) on real-life troubles of pop princes Britney Spears in her darkest media times of late 2007 and early 2008.

Feste said Britney Spears inspired her movie when Shane saw photos and footage of Brit shaving her head and attacking a car with an umbrella.

That’s where this movie came from. I mean, I was seeing what was happening in the media to Britney Spears,” Shane Feste said in her interview with Los Angeles Times, adding that late King of Pop Michael Jackson was also quite inspiring.

“I finished the script when Michael Jackson passed away. I think it’s tragic how we treat people who give us so much, and we love to see them knocked down to build them back up again, to knock them down again. It’s a weird fascination.”

That makes the movie much more exciting to watch. Country Strong starring Gwyneth Paltrow and Leighton Meester is coming to theatres on January 11, 2011.
