Critics’ Choice Awards 2009
The Broadcast Film Critics Association held the 14th annual Critics’ Choice Awards ceremony last night with all A-listers show up for the event.
Critics’ Choice Awards is one of the most prestigious awards in movie industry and it previews the main winners of Golden Globes and Oscar.
This year The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Milk were nominated for eight awards, while Doubt, Slumdog Millionaire, and The Dark Knight all had six nods.
Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner of the night. It was awarded in the following categories: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writer, Best Yong Actor/Actress, and Best Composer.
The Dark Knight was named the Best Action Movie, Milk was honored as the Best Acting Ensemble, while The Curious Case of Benjamin Button didn’t receive any awards at all.
At the ceremony Pretty Woman star Richard Gere was awarded special Joel Siegel award that pays homage to Good Morning America film critic and BFCA member Joel Siegel, who died of cancer in June, 2007.
We consider the Joel Siegel Award to be the highest honor we bestow,” said BFCA President Joey Berlin. “From his days as a student activist in the civil rights movement, to co-founding Gilda’s Club to support cancer patients and their friends and family and to writing Lessons for Dylan inspired by his own illness, Joel strived mightily to make the world a better place. Richard personifies the qualities this award was created to celebrate.”

I have to disagree. Where did Richard Gere come from? He hasn’t been around (anywhere worth noting) for a while now. But anyways, I liked that Millionaire won big. That and the picture perfect tie between Hathaway and Streep. Interesting night to say the least.
