Bridget Jones the musical

Remember the plump, dowdy dressed, cigarette smoking, so-unlucky-in-love girl in ugly granny’s knickers named Bridget Jones?

Well, she’s baaaaack!

Bestselling book by Helen Fielding and one of the funniest romantic comedies based on it, Bridget Jones’s Diary, starring Renee Zellweger, Hugh Grant and Colin Frith is revived from book ashes.

Ms. Fielding is planning to release the Bridget Jones Musical in London’s West End in 2011. The musical won’t star the original movie cast [unfortunately] but will definitely follow the book’s line and preserve the very-English sense of humor the book oozes.

According to The Daily Mail, Helen Fielding is hands-on on the project, including writing both the script and lyrics for the songs.

We’re very excited with what we’ve seen so far, but it’s such early days. We’re working very closely with Helen,” people in the production company, Working Title, told the source.

I’m itching to know who’s gonna play Bridget (and actually try to play it better than Renee in the film).

Hope the musical will be good, as good as the book and the movie were.
