‘Avengers’ Smashes New Opening Weekend Record with $200.3M!

The Avengers is the new king of the opening weekend. The superhero movie grossed a unprecedented $200.3 million in its Friday-Sunday box-office debut, its studio estimated. The film is the first to break $200 million in three days. It destroyed the mark held by the previous weekend record-holder, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2! The Avengers started out big—taking in $18.7 million in midnight screenings—and got bigger: $80.5 million for all of Friday; $69.7 million on Saturday, a new record for that day; and, a projected $50.1 million on Sunday.

The Avengers kick off a record with $200 million box-office haul!

The film easily bested the opening-weekend performances of the Marvel Studios movies whose hero-stars were assembled for The Avengers: Iron Man ($99 million) and Iron Man 2 ($128 million); Thor ($66 million); and, Captain America ($65 million). Until the Harry Potter finale, 2008’s The Dark Knight had held the revenue record with a $158.4 million debut. Before that, the record-holder was 2007’s Spider-Man 3 with $151.1 million.

To be honest, I was worried about this movie, after Iron Man 2 and Captain America kinda spoilt the greatness of Iron Man and Thor. All worries gone now – you have to see this film!

It was great, Hulk easily is the best character, Captain is so sweet as a leader, and Stark was great as always – as usual Robert Downey Jr. stole the show with his charm. But I was heavily impressed with Mark Ruffalo’s interpretation of Bruce Banner/Hulk. No disrespect to Ed Norton but Ruffalo is better – he brought justice to the part of Hulk and makes him a really likeable character.

And Scarlett Johansson looks pretty hot in her skintight catsuit as the Black Widow. Briefly, just call on the nearest cinema and watch this movie – I’m sure, you’d be impressed. Marvel, Disney and anyone who was involved in this project just did it!
