The Jonas Brothers

The Jonas Brothers

They’re heartthrobs and genuinely talented artists, they’re sexy young guys living their dream. They’ve emerged on the world scene of music and made everyone fall in love with them, their songs and their positive attitude to life. They’ve gone through highs and lows but managed to save what’s really important – they’re brothers, and it’s more than just blood ties. For them, it has always been about the music.

The Jonas Brothers is a boy trio consisting of three brothers, Kevin Jonas, 22, Joe Jonas, 21, and Nick Jonas, 17, who’ve become a music world sensation and pop culture phenomenon just within a year and a half. Already now they’re cited as one of the most popular teen groups of the 2000s and compared to McFly, Hanson, and the Modern Lovers, all famous for catchy anthems. They state they’re not like the rest, and millions of fans are ready to prove that’s true with largest concert venues sold out and top iTunes rates for JB singles. “They’ve got fizzy harmonies, punchy power chords and sugary choruses that bounce off the walls.” USA Today’s Jonas Brothers review read.

Oprah Winfrey compared the Jonas Brothers mania to that of the Beatles.

Before they became famous

The Jonas Brothers are young New Jersey natives reared in the city of Wyckoff. Their parents are both musicians, with farther a former pastor and mother a sign language teacher who also homeschooled the boys. There are four children in their family, the youngest is Franklin “Frankie” Jonas, 8, also known as the “Bonus Jonas” or “Frank the Tank.” He’s planning to debut with his brothers next year.

The first to show particular flair for singing was Nick. He says he began singing as soon as he could talk. “From the time I was two years old, I would wake up in the morning and start singing all the time, every second of the day.” His voice when he was younger was compared to that of previous prodigies like Stevie Wonder and Taylor Hanson.

Once Nick was singing while getting his hair cut in a local barbershop. A woman heard his voice and referred him to a professional show business manager. So it’s fair to say that the band started as a solo project of Nick Jonas. Nick has acted in several plays, including A Christmas Carol (2000), Annie Get Your Gun (2001), Beauty and the Beast (2002), Les Misérables (2003),  The Sound of Music. In 2002 Nick contributed to annual Broadway Equity Fights AIDS album, Broadway’s Greatest Gifts: Carols for a Cure, Vol. 4. with the song he wrote with his father called ‘Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)’. The song was later re-released on Joy to the World: The Ultimate Christmas Collection on October 3, 2006.

It’s not that Kevin and Joe were not interested in music. Kevin, who plays guitar and sings backing vocals, says he was home sick one day when he found a guitar and a Teach Yourself Guitar book in the house. “I spent the next three days learning how to play the basic chords,” Kevin remembers.

Joe’s original plan was slightly different from his brothers’. He first dreamed of becoming a comedian and wanted to audition for sketch comedy shows. “But I was always attached to music and loved listening to different kinds of music, especially rock,” he says. Joe also followed in his younger brother’s footsteps to Broadway, appearing in Baz Lurhmann’s production of La Boheme.
Anyway, brothers, usually led by Nick, often performed in their basement. Soon the three of them started getting commercial gigs, with their always-supportive parents helping the guys and their father financing them to help reach their dream.

Getting famous

In September 2004, an executive at Columbia Records found out about Nick’s Christmas song. The record company offered him to record two more singles ‘Dear God’ and a new solo recording of ‘Joy to the World (A Christmas Prayer)’. His debut solo self-title album was supposed to follow in December, eventually it got a limited release. Nick, along with Kevin and Joe , wrote several tracks for the album.

In early 2005, Columbia Records’ new president, Steve Greenberg, listened to Nick’s record. He didn’t like the album, he did like Nick’s voice. The Jonas Brothers were invited to the company for an audition where all three of them performed ‘Please Be Mine,’ the song they wrote. Columbia Records made a decision to sign the three as a group act. “All three of us were signed pretty much on the spot as the Jonas Brothers,” Kevin remembers.

In 2005, the Jonas Brothers went on several tours, including being the opening act of Kelly Clarkson, Jesse McCartney, the Backstreet Boys, and The Click Five. They were also on an anti-drug tour with Aly & AJ and The Cheetah Girls. In early 2006, they opened for The Veronicas.

The Jonas Brothers debuted their full-length album It’s About Time in August 2006. The album peaked at number 91 on the Billboard charts and earned the guys a modest audience, particularly among Radio Disney fans. Kevin, Nick and Joe expected some more positive reaction. Probably it was Sony (the parent company of Columbia) to blame as the record company wasn’t interested in further promoting the band. So The Jonas Brothers then considered finding another label. And they found one in 2007. It was Hollywood Records.

In October The Jonas Brothers covered ‘Poor Unfortunate Souls’ from The Little Mermaid. The song was released on a two-disc special-edition release of The Little Mermaid soundtrack including JB’s ‘Year 3000’ single from the It’s About Time album. The song became popular on Radio Disney. The music video debuted on Disney Channel in January 2007.
“It’s awesome to have my brothers on stage and in the studio with me. You have a security that everything is going to be okay, even when you mess up,” Nick said on working with his brothers as co-writers of the songs.

”We all have such passion for what we do and for our band. Our dreams have really come true and we’re just so lucky,” Kevin noted in one of the interviews.

International success

In early 2007 the Jonas Brothers were dropped by Columbia records and signed with Hollywood Records, a Disney-owned label. This new deal helped them significantly expand their audience and provided them with additional means of promotion like participating in other Disney projects. Moreover, two additional songs on two different albums were released on March 24, 2007: ‘Kids of the Future’ from the Meet the Robinsons soundtrack and ‘I Wanna Be like You’ from DisneyMania 5.

In August 2007, the trio released their second album Jonas Brothers that became a pop world sensation. It reached number five on the Billboard Hot 200 chart in its first week.

In August 2007, the band made several appearances on TV. They guest-starred in a Disney Channel Hannah Montana show (“Me and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas and Mr. Jonas” episode). On August 24, The Jonas Brothers performed at the Miss Teen USA contest. On November 18, 2007, they performed at the American Music Awards, singing ‘S.O.S.’ They also performed ‘Hold On’ at Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

When touring in support of the record on their “Look Me In The Eyes” tour Nick, Kevin and Joe had their shows sold out from coast to coast. Their Gibson Amphitheater show in LA was the fastest sold-out show in the venue’s history. In 2007 The Jonas Brothers were filming their reality show The Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream documenting life on the road during Look Me In The Eyes tour.

In 2008 they made another Disney Channel television movie Camp Rock that also featured rising star Demi Lovato. Jonas Brothers played a band called Connect Three. A soundtrack for the movie was released on June 17, 2008. It debuted at number 3 on the Billboard 200. According to the source, the movie was watched by 8.9 million viewers and became the network’s most-watched non-sequel movie ever.

Being among the most stylish teens in showbiz, the guys just can’t be estranged from fashion events. On November 14, 2008 they performed at the launch of American Eagle Outfitter’s new kids line, 77Kids. “We got together with 77kids by American Eagle to put on a show for fans around the world,” said Nick Jonas.

On November 23, 2008 The Brothers performed at American Music Awards and then had a free three-hour 24-song concert at the House of Blues. Besides performing their own songs, the guys also covered John Mayer’s ‘Gravity,’ Tom Petty’s ‘Freefallin,’ Bob Marley’s ‘Waiting in Vain,’ and Kanye West’s ‘Heartless.’ Their Camp Rock costar Demi Lovato joined them on stage to sing some of her singles with the brothers and also John Mayer’s ‘Daughters.’ Jordin Sparks sang Stevie Wonder’s ‘Superstition’ with Nick, Joe and Kevin. The JoBros paired with Dan Aykroyd to cover the 1956 Bo Diddley hit “Who Do You Love?” before finishing the gig with the Beatles‘ ‘Hey Jude.’

On November 24, 2008 Nock, Joe and Kevin had a launch party for their book Burning Up: On Tour with the Jonas Brothers. Burning Up is an exclusive behind-the-scenes book containing totally exclusive never-before-seen photos and exclusive commentary. The book was written by the brothers, giving a first-hand view of their life behind-the-scenes and on-stage performing.

On Thanksgiving Day 2008 the Jonas Brothers performed as the halftime entertainment at the Cowboys-Seahawks game, kicking off the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Christmas Campaign, which raises money to buy food and clothes for millions of Americans.

On Christmas Day 2008 The Jonas Brothers appeared on the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade alongside Miley Cyrus and Corbin Bleu. And on New Year’s Eve the Jonas Brothers made a surprise performance at Ryan Seacrest’ Rockin’ New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square.

The brothers took part in The Kids’ Inaugural Concert to honor military families on Jan. 19б 2009 in Washington D.C. The concert was hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden, wife of Vice-President-elect. The other teen stars taking part in the event were Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Bow Wow. “It’s absolutely an honor to be able to perform. For me, I’ve always talked about a future in the White House someday, so to be able to go back again should be fun,” Nick said several days before the show. “But it really is an honor. What we’re doing is all for the children and the families of the military, and we couldn’t have been more thrilled to have been asked.”

On February 8, 2009 The Jonas Bros took part in their first Grammy Awards where they were nominated in one category. They performed at the show singing with legendary Stevie Wonder.

They also hosted a night of The CW’ series 90210 and Privileged on Feb. 10, 2009, and then performed on SNL on Valentine’s Day.

On February 12, 2009 the Bros presented their wax fingures in Madame Tusseuds Museum in New York. This was the second wax work of the trio, and it was added to the big Tusseuds collection fter the museum received “hundreds of thousands of requests for a Jonas Brothers wax work.”The same day they made their first ever appearance on the Late Show with David Latterman.

Jonas Brothers 3-D concert movie hit theaters in February 2009 featuring their two shows in Anaheim, California on July 13 and July 14, 2008. “The coolest thing about this movie is that it’s just not the performances that you see. It’s the stuff behind-the-scenes that really stood out to us,” Nick said of the film.

In April 2009 it was reported The Jonas Brothers teamed up with Miley Cyrus for a duet. The song ‘Pass It On’ was written by the writers of Hannah Montana: The Movie soundtrack ‘Hoedown Throwdown,’ Adam Anders and Nikki Hassman. The song is a Disney’s version of ‘We Are the World'” which tells “about kindness and passing it on”. The video for the song was shot on April 4.

“Everyone thinks that me and the Jonas Brothers have this big feud going on, and me and Nick are really close friends now. We talk all the time and he’s one of my best friends,” Miley said. “We don’t hate each other. “We really love each other. He’s really cool, and I’m happy we’ve been able to stay friends.”

Jonas Brothers’ Disney Channel original series, J.O.N.A.S! premiered on Disney Channel in May 2, 2009 at 8/7c. The film was created by Roger S.H. Schulman (Shrek) and Michael Curtis (of Phil of the Future). “We’re brothers. We’re a band. And now we’re a show,” the Jonas Brothers said.

The Jonas Brothers headed on their first ever world tour in June 2009. They had 50 shows in Europe, South and North America. Before going on tour in June, Kevin, Joe and Nick will have some gigs in the Bahamas on March 14, April 18 and May 9, and in Puerto Rico on March 22. On May 9 they presented their new single ‘Paranoid’ from the Lines, Vines and Trying Times album.

The brothers toured across United States through late August with Jordin Sparks as their supporting act. “We are doing our best to hit as many places as possible,” they wrote on their MySpace. “The new tour will include new songs from our new CD coming out this summer, as well as songs from our new TV show [J.O.N.A.S!].”

Nick Jonas told Rolling Stone that “putting this show together is so much different than anything we’ve ever done before.” Kevin added, “We wanted a great way for everyone to have a front-row seat. You might have to come more than once to see it all because you might not catch it all.” “It’s like a dance party onstage,” Joe Jonas concluded.

On June 21 the guys co-hosted and performed at 2009 MuchMusic Video Awards in Canada.”We’re so excited to get back up to Canada, and co-hosting the MMVAs is a real honour for us!” Kevin said.

And on August 10, 2009 The Jonas Brothers hosted and performed at Teen Choice Awards, where they won in three categories.

In late September 2009 the trio presented their wax figures at Madame Tussauds Hollywood, marking their second time to have their figures immortalized in wax. The three wax figures cost a total of $1 million to produce and feature actual clothes worn/donated by Kevin, Joe and Nick.

On October 4, 2009 Nick and Joe took part in the CIBC’s Run For The Cure 5K in Toronto, Canada. Both of them joined an estimated 30,000 other people who participated in the annual event. The duo’s aim was to help raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

The late October 2009 rumor had it, Nick Jonas was going to launch his solo career and even tour without Joe and Kevin in 2010. The band Nick Jonas And The Administration is more about “heart & soul”, as Nick himself put it. “If I was to describe the sound to someone … I would say its ‘heart & soul’,” Nick said. “Because the music that I make is from my heart, and the lyrics I write are from my soul.”

Elder brothers Kevin and Joe totally support their lil bro in his new venture. “We are so proud of our brother Nick,” they said in a joint statement via MySpace. “We know that we will be doing music together for the rest of our lives. But we are thrilled for you to hear these songs that were on his heart. They are amazing works of art from an amazing talent … our brother.”

One of the first things Nick did with his band was to cover JB’s ‘Tonight.’ “It’s really wonderful,” Kevin said about the cover version.

In the mid November 2009 Nick Jonas and The Administration released their first song ‘Who I Am’ and had the first big gig during The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! – Countdown to Music’s Biggest Night on December 2, 2009 at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. The second major performance was at the 15th annual Critics’ Choice Awards on January 15, 2010. Nick’s band was the house band of the show. “I’m excited and honored,” Nick Jonas said a month before the show. “We’ll be performing a lot of covers. Intros and outros to the commercials. I think we have about 25 songs to learn.”

Around the same time Nick announced that his new band would release the debut album entitled Who I Am on Feb 2, 2010 with first US tour dates revealed later that month.

On November 18, 2009 as a part of the European leg of their world tour, JB took part in UK’s governmental Tune In – Year of Music campaign which aims to inspire young musicians. They visted one of the schools to give a masterclass in guitar playing and song arranging. “We’re here today to talk to the students here at this wonderful school, just about the importance of music, the importance of getting involved with music if you can, our love of music, and what we’ve learned in our experiences so far,” Nick Jonas said. “And hopefully we’ll give them some insight into what it’s like to be a musician and an artist.”

Also, in early November 2009 it was reported Jonas Brothers would do the second season of J.O.N.A.S! under the newly-appointed executive producers, Lester Lewis (The Office) and Paul Hoen (director of nine Disney Channel movies). “These guys are the superstars of their generation,” Disney Channels Worldwide entertainment president Gary Marsh said. “We had the opportunity to extend our relationship with them, which we did.” The production commenced in February 2010, and the show returned on TV in mid 2010. The story follows the Lucas brothers as they “set out on a summer vacation in Los Angeles that leads to them landing gigs in show business.” J.O.N.A.S. L.A. was later closed after two seasons.

JB’s short-form reality series Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream premiered its second season on March 21, 2010.

On January 8, 2010 Nick Jonas had his TV show hosting debut co-hosting Regis and Kelly with Kelly Ripa.

In January 2010 Joe denied the rumors of the trio breaking up. He said: “[Nick’s side project] just makes it even better for the three of us and means that we all have our own individual styles of music that we love. I’m doing a lot of writing and I’m not sure where that will pick up. I’m kind of sure, but I can’t really talk about it. I’m excited. It’s gonna be a really cool 2010,” he added saying he’d written about five songs with his friends and musicians from other bands. “[Nick’s] music and the music I’m writing and Kevin’s music that he really wanted to start writing. I think all of our music together after all this time is really going to make it a great tour and a new album. So it’s great to be able to have these opportunities to do these different things.”

Around the same time it was reported Joe had landed himself a TV role guest starring on Brothers & Sisters as the young version of Tommy Walker (Balthazar Getty).

On February 11, 2010 Joe Jonas and his Camp Rock co-star and off-set friend Demi Lovato presented their duet song ‘Make a Wave’ at the Disney World’s gig in Orlando, Florida. It was the first side project for Joe.

In late April 2010 the guys announced dates of their new world tour with Demi Lovato to support their new Disney movie, sequel to Camp Rock, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. The three continent tour was hailed as something JB fans “will never forget.”

Camp Rock: The Final Jam was ranked as TV’s No. 1 Labor Day weekend telecast ever among Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14 when it premiered on Sept. 3, 2010.

Nick Jonas made his West End theatre debut at London’s Queen’s Theatre on June 21, 2010 playing Marius in Les Miserables. “When I was ten years old I was in Les Miserables [on Broadway] as Gavroche. On my closing night in 2003 I told my parents that I would come back to be Marius one day. It is truly a dream come true,” Nick told JustJared.com.

In late September 2010 Joe’s solo album was confirmed. The debut record was hailed to have “a more dangerous sound” but still “sexier, Justin Timberlake vibe” and be released next year. Joe described hi solo effort as “electro indie pop rock.” “It’s Joe’s album, it’s not just something put together for him,” said Danja, one of the album’s producers. “He’s collaborating with the writing. He’s very different from what you’d expect. All I can say is he’s an adult man. He has a rock-star edge about him.” In his interview for Details April 2011 Joe said the first single off the album was ‘See No More’. The song was released on June 3, 2011 with the video following shortly on June 29. The track “carries a lot of personal emotions with it and I am hoping people listening to it will get a sense of where I’m coming from with this new sound,” Joe Jonas said. The album was due on September 6, 2011.

Around the same time it was reported Nick Jonas would guest star on the first season of Matthew Perry’s new ABC series Mr. Sunshine. According to the report, Nick plays up-and-coming pop star Eli White, a demanding diva who turns things upside down before a show at San Diego’s historic Sunshine Center sports arena.

In October 2010 Nick Jonas teamed up with Michelle Obama for a national multimedia campaign, Disney Magic of Healthy Living, that enlists parents’ help in their quest to raise healthy, happy kids via improving their diet and introducing more exercise into their lifestyles.

Albums

It’s About Time (2006)

“We decided to call the album It’s About Time because so many of our songs seem to deal with different aspects of time,” Nick revealed on the name of the LP. “There’s ‘6 Minutes,’ which is about how quickly you can run through the full range of emotions when you feel strongly about someone you just met. There’s ‘7:05,’ about etching in your memory the exact time a relationship ended, and, well, the list goes on,” Kevin added.

As for the Jonas Brothers, they said several songs stood out for them on the album, among them a catchy tune ‘Time For Me to Fly’ that’s about “following our dream of making music” and “about us working hard, playing music every night and trying to make things happen.” ‘Time for Me to Fly’ was included in Aquamarine soundtrack.

According to the Jonas boys, ‘Mandy’ is a very personal track about the girl who their mother taught to sign so that she could pursue her dream of working with the hearing impaired. “We were writing songs one day and decided we wanted to write about something really nice – so we wrote a song about Mandy. She’s the nicest girl you will ever meet,” Nick said. ‘Mandy’ became the first single of the album released December 27, 2005. It was then featured in the Nickelodeon television film Zoey 101: Spring Break-Up and Zoey 101: Music Mix. ‘Mandy’ music video was placed at number 4 in MTV’s TRL, which was considered to be a good start for a young newcomer.

Though writing a lot of original material for their debut album, Kevin, Joe and Nick collaborated with such other artists like Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne), Michael Mangini (Joss Stone), Desmond Child (Aerosmith, Bon Jovi), Billy Mann (Destiny’s Child, Jessica Simpson) and Steve Greenberg (Joss Stone, Hanson).

Jonas Brother (2007)
This album was the first the guys did with Hollywood Records. “When we signed to Hollywood, we told the label, ‘Hey, we have some demos of songs we’ve been writing for the past year and a half.’ We thought it’d be so funny to just record those songs for the album to see what we could get away with. But those turned out to be the songs on the record!” Guys said in an interview.
The new LP was released on August 7, 2007 in the CDVU+ format, which is made from 100% recyclable materials.  The first released singles ‘Hold On’ and ‘SOS’ debuted at number 70 and 65 at charts correspondently. ‘S.O.S.’ quickly hit number 1 on iTunes. The album reached number five on the Billboard Hot 200 in its first week.

Jonas Brothers kicked off their Look Me In the Eyes Tour to support the album on January 31, 2008 in Tucson, Arizona. They shot their own reality TV series, The Jonas Brothers – Living the Dream that premiered on Disney Channel on May 16, 2008.

After the Look Me In The Eyes Tour had ended on March 22, 2008, the Jonas Brothers announced that they would be opening up for Avril Lavigne’s Best Damn Tour, making it their first Europe tour ever starting in late May and lasted till late June 2008.

According to the guys, inspiration for the songs comes directly from their personal experiences – from the highs and lows of dating to being on the road to having been given the opportunity to follow their dreams at such a young age. “A lot of it is about typical teenage love stuff like ‘Oh, what am I going to do if I can’t see her today?’ It’s not stuff that we don’t know about,” Nick says.

A little Bit Longer (2008)

A little Bit Longer was released in the USA on August 12, 2008 with the same CDVU+ technology like their second self-titled album. The trio call this album more mature and more in-depth. The album shows the Jonas Brothers have grown as songwriters, musicians and recording artists.

The LP features exclusive video performances and interviews, 60 printable photos, complete album lyrics, and downloadable graphics.

“The lyrical content has gotten more in-depth,” Nick said of the new album. “It’s about who we are as people and our personal lives, things we’ve gone through in the past 12 months.” All the 12 tracks of the album were written by Nick, Joe and Kevin, giving a deeper look at their feelings, covering much of emotional ground but still rocking. Much of the album material was recorded while on tour last fall.

The first single from A Little Bit Longer was ‘Burnin’ Up’, “it’s about this girl, maybe she’s at a party, and you feel that immediate connection, you both know it’s there,” Joe said of the song. The ‘Burnin’ Up’ video immediately peaked to number 1 on iTunes. The brothers appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and performed ‘Burnin’ Up’ in front of an outdoor audience on August 4, 2008.

Burning Up was also the name of The Jonas Brothers’ 50 date tour that kicked off July 4 in Toronto.  Demi Lovato was a special guest. At one of the gigs Nick Jonas announced that the band had already written five songs for their fourth studio album.

Tracks on A Little Bit Longer are really different exploring different feelings, but the most touching, amazing and stunning is surely ‘A Little Bit Longer,’ which is Nick’s account of his struggle with diabetes. “I was having one of those days where I was discouraged. So I went into this empty hotel ballroom and wrote this song,” Nick recalled in one of the interviews later.

The song is intended to spread awareness about diabetes and offer encouragement to those who suffer from the disease. “I had a day when my sugar was out of range, and I sat down at the piano and wrote it in 20 minutes. And it was because I had this strong inspiration. A lot of people have told me it’s inspiring. For me, my vision has always been to be a positive light. A simple win is being able to inspire,” Nick added at the press conference August 6, 2008.

Video for the single “BB Good” debuted during Disney Channel’s show Night of Stars on February 16, 2009.

In February 2009 the trio shared their excitement over the new album. “The new album is coming together. We’re working on it right now, about 5 songs [are] in. We’re very excited about the way it’s sounding,” Nick Jonas said. In March it was reported they already had nine songs ready, and the album was about to be released on June 16, 2009 entitled Lines, Vines, and Trying Times, Rolling Stone revealed.

“Lines are something that someone feeds you, vines are the things that get in the way, and trying times, well, that’s obvious,” Nick told the publication.

“Its kind of a back to the roots sound for us,” he added. “Just going back to who we are and just the real kind of the musical side of the Jonas Brothers – it’s a lot of fun. The songs are sounding cool and excited to share them all with you soon.”

The trio eleborated on some of the songs on the album. ‘World War III’ “is a personal experience for me,” Nick said. “It deals with the challenge of a girl who keeps attacking you, provoking you, trying to fight you, but all the while she’s the only one fighting.”

‘Hey Baby’ was written while on the road and the guys felt the old school sound was more cohesive with their present style.

‘Poison Ivy’ a song about how “something may not be too good for you, but you keep going back to it because you can’t resist the urge, the itch, to go back to the person.”

Nick added the band were inspired by Kings of Leon when writing new material for the new album. “There are some songs that are really sounding cool to us. We’re being inspired by new music some music out of the U.K….Kings Of Leon is another big one for us. A lot of different inspirations, a lot of new sounds. We’re just trying to continue to grow as musicians and songwriters.”

He also added the trio were inspired by Elvis Costello, The Zutons, and Neil Diamond.

“The songs on the new album are all about things that we’ve really gone through. Personal experience is where we get all our inspiration from. But also, we’ve been working on trying to use metaphors to mask a literal thing that happened to us. Elvis Costello did that, and [we’ve been] listening to his music and trying to imitate that.”

The guys said their songs do not necessarily reflect their own life experience. “Sometimes when we write songs, it’s not something we’ve been through,” Nick said. “It’s something that we’ve seen someone else go through and we say, ‘Why don’t we write a song about that?'”

Lines, Vines And Trying Times rumored tracklisting was revealed in early May 2009. The song ‘Paranoid’, the lead single off the album, hit radios on May 8 and was dropped for digital purchase on May 12, 2009. In June 2009 the trio announced they wished to mash up their ‘Paranoid’ with ‘Paranoid’ by Kanye West to attract more fans and listeners.

For the album Nick, Kevin and Joe collaborated with rapper Common, Miley Cyrus and Jonny Lang. “We have Common on one song called ‘Don’t Charge Me With the Crime,’ which is one of my favorite songs. It’s a story song,” Kevin told MTV in June 2009. “It didn’t really happen to us. But it’s definitely fun to have him on the track.”

Lines, Vines, And Trying Times debuted at number 1 on Billboard Hot 200. The album sold more than 247,000 copies in its first week on sale.

In February 2010 the bros revealed they had “already started writing songs” for the 5th studio album.

Behind the scenes

They’re young, they’re talented, they’re handsome, and, thus, they’re center of public attention. Everyone’s interested in The Jonas Brothers’ personal lives but the guys try to keep it private at least as far as it can go. But there are thing they can’t hide. And there’re things they’re ready to share with their fans.

Kevin, Joe and Nick make no secret out of their purity rings they famously wear as a promise they made not to have premarital sex. The rings are “a promise to ourselves and to God that we’ll stay pure ’till marriage,” Joe explained. The brothers say “the rings are just one of our ways of kind of like being different than everybody else out there.” Being committed Evangelical Christians, the Jonas brothers abstain from alcohol, cigarettes and drugs.

“I don’t think they’re above or beyond being seduced,” Jonas Brothers’ mother Denise Jonas told Good Housekeeping magazine’s July 2009 issue referring to their purity rings. “They are men. They have desires. They have testosterone. If they make a mistake, I’m not going to hate them.”

Being often in the spotlight these days, it’s no wonder there’s a lot of tabloid speculation about their private life and girls they’re dating. “It is our rule to not talk about our personal lives, especially who we are dating,” Kevin, Joe and Nick wrote on their MySpace page in September 2008.

Though never going official about their romantic involvement, Joe Jonas’s split from Taylor Swift in October 2008 drew some public attention due to her writing a song, ‘Always and Forever, about it. “It’s been tough,” she said. Joe reportedly dumped her over the phone. One of the reasons for the split could probably be Joe’s status of a sex symbol, as Taylor and Joe weren’t even “allowed to go in public” together because his management felt it wasn’t good for his image. In her pre-split interviews, however, Taylor noted “anyone would be lucky to be dating” Joe and called him “an amazing person.”

There were reports Joe has moved on from Taylor to 10,000 BC star Camilla Belle after they met while shooting ‘Lovebug.’ “It was only after doing the video that they began to date,” People reported in November 2008. “They are not public about it but they’ve just been hanging out with their friends and Joe’s brothers.”

Following the reports on Joe’s being unfaithful to Taylor, he wrote on The Jonas Brothers’ official blog: “I never cheated on a girlfriend. It might make someone feel better to assume or imply I have been unfaithful but it is simply not true. Maybe there were reasons for a breakup. Maybe the heart moved on. Perhaps feelings changed.”

As of January 2009 Joe and Camilla were still going strong as they were seen hand in hand during Bell’s Push premiere on Jan. 29, 2009, though neither of them confirmed or denied the romance reports.

“He’s a ladies’ man,” Kevin said of his brother on the CBS’ The Early Show on February 17, 2009. “Girls love him!”

InStyle hailed Joe a “HeartthrobJon” in its June 2009 issue. “It feels great when you’re on stage and girls are screaming for you,” he said the publication. “I become a different person.”

Though dating Camilla, Joe confessed he would like to meet Emma Watson, calling her an “amazing” girl.

Joe and Camilla split in late July 2009. Joe took the separation very close to heart getting very emotional at Jonas Brothers’ Detroit concert on July 26, 2009. He was seen crying singing ‘Gotta Find You.’

In January 2010 Joe said he had recently reconnected with Taylor Swift and the two were on friendly terms again.

In March 2010 during the interview with Billy Bush Demi Lovato, Camp Rock co-star and long-time friend, confirmed she and Joe were dating. The first romance reports surfaced in mid 2009 but the two denied the rumors saying they were nothing but good friends. In late May 2010 the couple split.

Joe met his new girlfriend, Twilight star Ashley Greene at a Kings Of Leon concert in mid-summer 2010. They were first seen together in July. In November Joe even flew to Florida to meet Ashley’s parents. However, the couple split in early March 2011 due to busy work schedules on both sides.

Kevin Jonas first went public with his girlfriend Danielle Deleasa on October 20, 2008 by sharing a passionate smooch with her while walking along Point Mugu in California.

Danielle grew up next door to Kevin in his home town, and the two have been secretly dating for months. They were first spotted in Yorkville in July 2008 when speculation began that the two were more than just friends.

On July 1, 2009 Kevin proposed to Danielle and she said yes.

In August 2009 Nick Jonas spilled the beans hinting the couple could tie the knot by the end of the year: “They have not set a date yet, but I think that it’ll be sometime around the end of the year, beginning of the year – something like that,” he said. The latest rumor said the would marry in the Bahamas where they first met.

In his interview for Canada’s Hot 89.9 FM Kevin said he wanted both Joe and Nick to be his best men: “They both are [my best man]. [Deleasa] actually has two sisters, kind of the same age as well. It works out really well because there are two maids of honor and two best men.”

Joe added he was super excited about the idea saying, “I want it. I’ll be the best best man ever. Eventually if I get married, [the best man is] gonna be Nick, and when it’s Nick, [the best man is] gonna be Frankie [Jonas].”

In his interview for CTV Kevin added he wanted to get 100% involved in the wedding planning and preperations: “I’m definitely into the planning process, a lot of guys you know are like just go ahead take it all but no I definitely want to be a part of all of it, as much as I can of course. It’s fun and brings us together and we get to make a lot of decisions together,” he said. “We’re in between a bunch of things right now like choosing dates and things like that but we’re just trying to figure everything out and we’re enjoying it, we’re having a blast.”

Kevin and Danielle tied the knot on December 19, 2009 in Long Island. “We’re so happy that we’re finally married and we were able to share the special moment with family, friends and loved ones,” the happy couple has told reporters.

The ceremony was threatened by a massive snowstorm but 400 family members and friends who attended the ceremony including Demi Lovato, said the reception looked like a a “winter wonderland.” Danielle wore a strapless tulle and Chantilly lace gown by Vera Wang. Nick and Joe were Kevin’s best men, and the couple recited traditional vows and exchanged Jacob & Co. wedding bands they designed for one another, People reported exclusively. Also, the wedding had a princess feel as Danielle was presented with glass slippers. “I knew that my princess needed her glass slippers and her castle,” Kevin told the publication. “I’ve never seen a more beautiful bride.”

In 2008 Kevin was included into People‘s annual list of the Sexiest Men Alive alongside Hugh Jackman, David Beckham, and Brad Pitt. When asked about what song Kevin considered to be sexy he named ‘Senorita’ by Justin Timberlake. And when asked about what he looks for in a woman, Kevin is quoted as saying, “mystery is always a good thing!” explaining further that mystery will always keep a relationship “fresh”.

Nick Jonas, being the youngest of the three, turns out to be a great heartbreaker too. There’ve been rumors about him dating Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus but neither of them confirmed the relationship till August 2008. “Nick and I loved each other,” Cyrus told the Seventeen magazine. “We still do, but we were in love with each other. For two years he was basically my 24/7. We were arguing a lot, and it really wasn’t fun.”

“[When I first met him,] it felt like the whole world stopped. Nothing else mattered. [The day we broke up was] the hardest day ever. Deep down I know we weren’t being our best selves. And that was what I wanted — and thought I deserved – in a relationship,” Miley then wrote in her memoir Miles To Go, revealing that her song ‘7 Things I Hate About You’ was written for Nick: “[I wrote it to] punish him, to get him back for hurting me [but the song is] about forgiving, not forgetting. It’s hard to imagine that our love is a story with an end.”

“We’ve definitely reconnected. We don’t know what’s going to happen in the future, but right now we’re just kind of kicking it and hanging out as much as we can,” Miley said about Nick in early June 2009 responding to reports they had rekindled their romance. “We both just kind of saw each other and kind of decided this whole thing is kind of stupid.” “We were all over the separation,” Miley added. “I’m really happy to be back in their lives. And our families are super happy we’re hanging out again.”

When asked about dating Miley, Nick almost repeated her words saying he was happy they’d “reconnected.”

Nick was also rumored to be dating Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena Gomez, while And Emma Roberts (Hotel For Dogs) was said to be the latest to have a crush on the young Jonas. During the Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards 2009 she sent him a note reading: “Nick, I love you.” She signed it with a big heart and her phone number, it was reported.

In May 2011 Nick was spotted with rumored new GF, singer Delta Goodrem who was 8 years his senior.

In May 2009 when asked what qualities each of them could donate to form a “super Jonas” Joe said: “Kevin’s a really funny guy, so I’d take that, Nick’s very serious and also very fun.” “And Joe’s got good hair,” Kevin joked.

Among the things Jonas Brothers like and dislike about girls, they say a girl mustn’t be “nagging and annoying,” she must treat her family right. “They have to be good to their moms,” Nick explained. Besides, the brothers say they’re open to dating a non-celeb girl, and maybe even go down the aisle with one. “We have already dated fans or girls that are not celebrities. In fact, we really like to believe that the girl we will spend our lives with will be our biggest ‘fan,’” they wrote on MySpace.

In March 2009 the guys said that though focused on their upcoming world tour they still kept “a little time for dating”. “We’ve got a lot going on in our lives, and I think for us, we’re focused on that,” Nick Jonas told E! News. “For the most part we’re focused on working on the TV show [J.O.N.A.S!], we just finished that, and now with this new tour. We’re really trying to connect with our fans. They’re the most important thing in the world to us.”

Charity plays an important role in the brothers’ lives. In 2007 they earned about $12 million and donated 10% of their earnings to their charity, Change for the Children Foundation. “We started The Change for the Children Foundation to support programs that motivate and inspire children to face adversity with confidence, determination and a will to succeed. And we think the best people to help children are their peers – kids helping other kids who are a little less fortunate.”

On November 28, 2008 The Jonas Brothers donated $10,000 to their foundation and also donated their own coats to the clothing drive.

Nick Jonas, who suffers from diabetes since the age of 13, is Bayer Diabetes Care ambassador to promote the idea for young people to manage their diabetes and help spread awareness about the disease and inspire young people for achieving daily victories when it comes to controlling their disease.

As part of his partnership with Bayer Diabetes Care, Nick Jonas launched National Diabetes Month at the Los Angeles Dodgers ballpark on November 1, 2008.

In May 2010 Nick and Bayer Diabetes Care launched a competition called Give Back Simply Win.

As for Nick himself and his battle, he says the most challenging is to maintain his glucose levels before he gets onstage to perform. His brothers, Kevin and Joe, are always there to help him if he gets in a high or low while performing. “It’s great that we have that support system onstage,” Kevin Jonas said.

On October 25, 2008 The Jonas Brothers performed their hit ‘A Little Bit Longer’ at the 30th Anniversary Carousel Of Hope Ball Benefiting The Barbara Davis Center For Childhood Diabetes at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Ca. “On the day that I got diagnosed, I heard about this event, and I knew it was something that I wanted to be a part of. To be here tonight to perform is a dream come true for us and for me, it’s truly an honor,” Nick Jonas said in the interview.

On June 24, 2009 Nick testified at a Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee hearing on government funding for diabetes research, along with Sugar Ray Leonard and Mary Tyler Moore. The hearing was held in Washington, D.C.

On August 24, 2009 Nick attended the National Press Club luncheon in Washington, D.C. to raise awareness about juvenile diabetes. At the event he also promoted his new website, Nick’s Simple Wins, which is targeted towards kids and teens struggling with juvenile diabetes as well as inspiring “young people with diabetes to achieve small, everyday victories while managing their disease.”
