5 most memorable Grammy duets
What I love about music awards shows is that they’re always full of surprises. You never know how good (or bad) the host will be, who’ll get awards, who’ll cry on stage, who’ll be best or most ridiculously dressed, and you almost never know how good duets will be.
Grammy Awards like to blend styles, genres, songs. Duets are usually really spectacular and unpredictable in what refers to the song and its presentation. It’s a lot of fun. And honestly speaking, duets are my favorite part of the show, safe for redcarpet, of course.
So here’s my list of most memorable Grammy Awards duets of the recent years.
5. J Lo & Marc Anthony, 2005
Let’s begin with something romantic. At 2005 Grammy Awards we all had a chance to take a peek into the couple’s bedroom. It was a romantic duet, a romantic song, and a pretty nice performance.
4. Linkin Park, Jay-Z & Paul McCartney, 2006
Rock, rap, and rock’n’roll! Two generations of musicians performed on the same stage singing songs of two different genres but making it a great cover version of ‘Yesterday’!
3. Black Eyed Peas, Gwen Stefani, Eve, Los Lonely Boys, Maroon 5 and Franz Ferdinand, 2005
ir’s not actually a duet, but anyway they rocked! Grammy is probably the only place we can see such different artists perform together. I was amazed by Fergie’s powerful voice, I loved Gwen Stefani’s sexy outfit, and I loved the performance, though it was pretty long.
Here’s part 1
… and part 2
2. Madonna & Gorrilaz, 2006
It was something surreal – Five-time Grammy winner Madonna teamed up with virtual band Gorillaz to open the night. It was the first time for network TV when the band performed in 3D colour animation. They rocked!
1. Eminem & Elton John, 2001
That was a great night for Eminem, and his duet with Elton John was probably the most thrilling part of the show. Enimen and Elton work in different genres, have different audiences, and seem to have nothing in common safe for ‘Stan,’ and alleged collaboration on Eminem’s latest still-to-be-released album.
Looking forward to new surprising duets at 2009 Grammys!
