For her first task, Gomez went to Ghana on September 4, 2009 for a week to provide aid to vulnerable children at unbearable conditions as lacking simple life necessities as clean water, food, proper education and healthcare. During an interview with Associated Press Selena said that she wanted to use her status to bring knowledge to Ghana:”That’s why I feel very honored to have a voice that kids listen to and take into consideration […] I had people on my tour asking me where IS Ghana, and they Googled it […] and because I went there, they now know where Ghana is. So it’s pretty incredible.”
As for her ambassador role, Selena said, “Every day 25,000 children die from preventable causes. I stand with UNICEF in the belief that we can change that number from 25,000 to zero. I know we can achieve this because every moment, UNICEF is on the ground providing children with the lifesaving assistance needed to ensure zero becomes a reality.”
Gomez was announced spokesperson for UNICEF’s 2009 Trick-or-Treat campaign, for the second year subsequently. Gomez, who collected over $700,000 for the charity in 2008, claimed that she hoped to gather 1 million dollars in 2009. Gomez took part in a celebrity auction and hosted a live web cast series on Facebook for supporting the Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign. In October 2008, Gomez opened her own production company, July Moon Productions. Moreover, that year she partnered with XYZ Films to create star magazine for Gomez. To carry out the contract points Gomez would have the chance to create own articles, hire writers and create talent works to sell to studios. Moreover, as part of the agreement, XYZ Films would allow Gomez to star in and produce at least two films. Variety reported that,”In August, XYZ [Films] inked a similar deal with Time Inc. and management-production company the Collective to finance the development of the print media giant’s content for the bigscreen. As part of the July Moon-XYZ deal, Selena Gomez will have the ability to cherry-pick projects from the vast Time Inc. library, which includes Time, Sports Illustrated, Fortune and Life.”
Selena Gomez shared her plan to launch her own fashion line called Dream Out Loud by Selena Gomez in 2009. A year later, her clothing line hit the stores. There are mainly Greek-style dresses, flower-printed tops, jeans, skirts, jackets, scarves and hats, all made of recycled or eco-friendly materials. Selena Gomez said that the line reflects her personal style and described the clothing as being “pretty, feminine, and bohemian,” and:
With my line, I really want to give the customer options on how they can put their own looks together […] I want the pieces that can be easy to dress up or down, and the fabrics being eco-friendly and organic is super important […] Also, the tags will all have some of my inspirational quotes on them. I’m just looking to send a good message.”
Sure Selena Gomez didn’t have any knowledge of fashion industry and collaborated with designers Tony Melillo and Sandra Campos who have worked with famous fashion houses. Gomez said of the partnering:
When I met Tony and Sandra, I was instantly comfortable with them and now they are just like family to me. They are so creative and I love how I can just call them up whenever and talk to them about everything, even if it’s just about changing a button. They’ve been so cool about everything.”
It became known on July 14, 2011, that Gomez had signed an agreement with Adrenalina, sports and adventure-themed lifestyle brand, to work out, produce, and sell the actress’ fragrance. Nick Jonas was Selena Gomez’ BF in 2008 after he and Miley Cyrus broke up. But very soon their pair split up. Still, they reunited in early 2010 after being together whilst Nick’s tour with his band, Nick Jonas and the Administration. Everything was okay, but broke up in March. At the time an unknown source told People magazine that the reason for divorcing was their inability to pay attention to each other due to very busy schedules of both Nick and Selena.
Taylor Lautner was Selena Gomez’ boyfriend for a short period. They started seeing each other in 2009 after the two met in Vancouver while she was filming Ramona and Beezus and he was filming New Moon. Selena would later admit the silent relationship to Seventeen magazine. She said at the time that there were no deep feelings in the split-up, and that Taylor made her very happy while they were together. They went different paths and soon Taylor met another Taylor (Swift.)
But Selena met Cameron Quiseng, the bassist for Allstar Weekend. They started dating after her 2010 split from Nick Jonas, if to believe rumors. The two were seen giving hug to each other after a bowling match, those times Cameron was pretty mysterious on the details when asked about his relationship with Selena.
David Henrie has been gossiped to be Selena Gomez’ boyfriend, but there’s no direct indication that the Wizards of Waverly Place co-stars had warm feelings to each other. The rumors started appearing right after Selena split with Nick Jonas in 2010 and before she and Cameron Quiseng created a couple, so this statement can be just rumor.
Rumors that Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were dating appeared in late 2010, but they heated them up in January, 2011 when photos showed the two with their arms around each other while lying in the sun poolside in Mexico. They made their public debut as a couple at the Oscars after party in March 2011.
As for friendship, Selena’s on-off BFF is Demi Lovato. Two Disney starlets both dated Jonas Brothers. But lately they’ve seemed to have many troubles. Demi said to magazine interview, “There are times when even if you’ve known someone for a long time, you change. Just because we were best friends doesn’t mean we’re always going to stay best friends.”
