Miss California against prop 8
Carrie, it’s nothing personal.
Former Miss USA, reality TV star and current co-executive director of the Miss California pageant Shanna Moakler, Miss California and Miss USA 2006 first runner-up Tamiko Nash and Miss California 2008 Raquel Beezley teamed up with photographer Adam Bouska for a photo campaign against Prop 8. NO H8 Campaign hopes to raise awareness and eventually have Proposition 8 over-turned in California, Fox News reports.
It’s necessary to say that Miss California 2009 Carrie Prejean’s name was often pronounced during the shot and the following interview. Shanna used to mentor Carrie during the Miss California part of the contest and was “hurt and upset” when Carrie voiced her infamous answer to Perez Hilton’s question.
I believe Prop 8 led a campaign of confusion and never made clear what was being asked of the people,” Shanna Moakler told Usmagazine.com. “I find most people have a problem with the word marriage. What I hope for is helping others understand ‘civil union’ and then one day helping people learn ‘marriage’ is something not God, not the state or country can solidify, but between two people who love each other.”
The campaign started last November, and more than 400 people have already been shot against the white background with their mouths covered with duct band.
We never expected to have so many beauty queens participate,” Bouska said. “The whole campaign, obviously, is not a direct message to Miss California, but now she happened to have put herself in the line of fire. If Carrie is going to go out there with her message, then we have to go out there and make sure the voices of these girls are heard. And that they are what Miss USA should stand for, too.”
