Hilary Swank Says She’s Sorry For Attending Chechen Prez’s Lavish Birthday Celebration
Hilary Swank and Jean Claude van Damme were invited to, so to say, Grozny city celebration which mysteriously coincided with the birthday of the Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov in Grozny. Both Swank and Van Damme, as well as the British violinist Vanessa Mae took part at Kadyrov’s 35th birthday party, the man who is blamed of murdering people who dared to show their disapproval to Ramzan’s offenses.
Swank seemed very glad for attending the party, as she was seen smiling at other performances sitting next to Van Damme reports Euronews. Taking the stage she pronounced:
Really, truly, for me this was a great honor to learn more about you and your country and what you’re building. And happy birthday, Mr. President.”
Van Damme showed some martial arts moves before giving a speech in which he roared:
I love you, Mr. Kadyrov.”
Vanessa Mae allegedly received $500,000 for her performance. It is not known if Swank and Van Damme received money for their attendance, but they say that these two are also paid highly.
Before of the loud event which Kadyrov said were not for his birthday but for the annual celebration for Grozny, the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) sent a letter to Swank and Van Damme along with several other stars asking not to attend the event, including Shakira, Eva Mendes and Kevin Costner:
Chechnya continues to constitute a situation where serious violations of human rights are continuously committed by the Chechen authorities… Mr. Kadyrov’s policy promotes the state of constant fear among the population and political opponents. Attending such an event on invitation of Mr. Kadyrov would disregard the seriousness of the situation with regards to his authoritarian ruling and the violation of fundamental human rights in the Chechen Republic. Therefore, we urge you not to attend the aforementioned event.”
Shakira, Mendes and Costner did not appear at the party unlike The Million Dollar Baby star and action movie genius accepted the invitation.
As human rights groups showed indignation Hilary hurried to apologise:
I’m sorry. I deeply regret attending this event. If I had a full understanding of what this event was apparently intended to be, I would never have gone.”
Oh, please! Don’t be so hilarious! You should have studied who are you going to visit beforehand, dear Hilary. Sometimes rich people are not as good as generous.
