The king is dead, long live the king
King of Pop Michael Jackson has become incredibly popular since his sudden death on June 25, 2009. Ever since then he’s already sold 31 million albums, while his last concert rehearsal movie This Is It has grossed more than $200 million in world box office.
MJ’s family is sure to be able to pay million his dollar debt thanks to the new deal Michael has landed nine months after his death.
His estate has signed a $200 million seven year recording deal for ten projects, including albums with never-before-released songs, a video game and re-release of Off The Wall album.
We’re dedicated to protecting this icon’s legacy and we’re thrilled that we can continue to bring his music to the world,” Sony Music’s Columbia/Epic Label Group chairman said in his statement.
Sony allegedly has as many as 60 unreleased tracks by Michael and plans to combine them with multiple remix tracks for the new albums.
The deal expires in 2017 and is said to cost even more by that time.
