Britney tops Billboard 200

Circus, Britney Spears’ latest album, released on her b-day, Dec. 2 is No. 1 on the Billboard 200 selling more than 500,000 copies in its first week of release, according to the singer’s label Jive.

Imagine a year ago, did anyone think that today she would be able to come out with an album that would not only just debut at No 1, but also do half a million copies in its first week?” Chart manager Keith Caulfied is quoted as saying.

Britney follows Taylor Swift in the biggest debut album of the year sales rating.

I think she is America’s pop princess, and the world’s pop princess, and this just reconfirms it to everyone who doubted it,” Britney’s manager Larry Rudolph told AP.

In comparison, 2007’s Blackout sold only about 290,000 copies in its first week.

So far, Britney is doing really great, we’ll see what her world tour will bring. According to Hollyscoop, more than 400,000 concert tickets are already sold for Britney’s American leg of the world tour that starts March 3, 2009.
