Purple & orange: Celebrities that love the color blocking trend

The color blocking trend is huge this summer so many female celebrities go for it but very often fail to impress, especially if they opt for the purple/orange combination. Kim Kardashian, Jessica Alba, Cheryl Cole and more – who looks hot in the purple/orange color-blocking trend?

Kim Kardashian is the latest among celebrities to try the bright combo. She opted for the two-toned Gucci ensemble at her perfume launch in London on June 8. The purple shirt and skin-tight orange skirt were completed with a gold belt and green and gold stilettos.

As to me, Kim looked really uncomfortable in that garment. It seemed as if the skirt and the top were some two sizes smaller than needed and I actually thought Kardashian had problems breathing in such a super tight outfit. I’m ok with the purple shirt, but orange is not Kim’s most flattering color.

Days before Kim turned up in London wearing the purple/orange color blocking trend, Jessica Alba dressed her big baby bump in the same colored Diane Von Furstenberg maxi gown for 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards. And just like with Kim, it wasn’t the best choice of a dress to wear. The orange of the dress looked awful against Jessica’s bronze skin.

Former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole also wore the purple/orange trend to the show’s LA audition in May this year. I actually liked the tone of the orange top by Oscar de la Renta and the bright purple of her Diane von Furstenberg pants.

Many think Cheryl Cole was the first celeb to start this purple/orange craziness. Those who think so are terribly wrong. The color blocking thing is nothing new and is actually a part of this season’s retro inspired fashion.

Like, back in February actress Camilla Belle also wore the purple/orange ensemble that she completed with the same gold belt as Kim Kardashian and bright green pants. The green pants killed the look.

And one of the first to get purple and orange obsessed was Rihanna who color blocked in December last year, making her look quite a breath of fresh air in glum winter fashion.
