Paris Haute Couture Week round-up
It was a great week celebrating style, design, and talent.
Giorgio Armani
I did enjoy Giorgio Armani’s Haute Couture collection. It was very satin and very elegant with a lot of embroidery and beadwork, elegant Chinese-style flower patterns, and slick lines.
Models sported heavy oversized accessories, odd hats, clutches, and platform heels. The colors ranged from blacks to vibrant yellow and crimson red. Style went all the way from oriental to redcarpet glamorous.
Givenchy
Givenchy favored a black and white theme just like Chanel, adding some ethereal touch. The Givenchy designer, Riccardo Tisci, also went for a monochrome palette, but clothes had a less structured feel. I liked big brooches present in a number of designs.
Dominique Sirop
French designer Dominique Sirop presented his Haute Couture collection in the house’s office. I don’t know if we should consider it the side effect of the global financial crisis or not.
Monsieur Sirop says that now all designs look similar and that designers have lost their style. So it’s no wonder Dominique Sirop creates Haute Couture only, preferring individual approach when working with clients.
Popularity of Dominique Sirop and his collection at Paris Fashion Week is obvious. President of The Federation francaise de la couture Chambre Syndicale Didier Grumbach was a bit late for the show and when he arrived there were no empty seats to take. So he had to enjoy the runway show from a window. Hope the view was ok.
Christophe Josse
French designer Christophe Josse presented a varied range of long flowing dresses, pant suits and short cocktail dresses.
I liked the flower patterns and bright colors.
As you see, Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week shows no sign of economic crisis so far. As John Galliano has said, “when you’re standing in a hurricane, you have to keep your feet firmly on the ground. If you panic, whew…you fly away.”
Fashion is standing firmly.

I agree with Monsieur Sirop that so many designs are similar. Perhaps the poor economy has caused many designers to pull back their individuality and originality in favor of choosing what is presently accepted and purchased.
