Dolce & Gabbana vamp up Scarlett
We see make up as another thing for women, like a dress. We worked on the make up line like we work on a clothing collection — you can change make up like you can change your clothes, depending on your mood,” Stefano Gabbana told WWD.com.
Clothes, accessories, perfume, and now make up line! Dolce & Gabbana are restless to expand their talent to more areas of global fashion market. The designer duo will launch their new make up collection next month with Scarlett Johansson as the face of the ad campaign. She’s featured lying on the bed, and the pics do remind us of Marilyn Monroe shoots.
Scarlett is sure of herself,” Gabbana said. “She’s a beautiful girl, but she’s really easygoing. She is very Dolce & Gabbana. There’s only one photo [of the three] in the campaign that is truly Marilyn, with her gestures and her attitude. For me, a woman’s coquettishness is very important.”
The D & G collection was developed with the assistance of make up artist Pat McGrath and it’s aim is to bring glamour back to make up. The core of the collection is lipstick. Rose-scented lipstick, by the way.
We noticed that lipsticks on the market took away their fragrance, but we wanted to create makeup with a scent. Domenico and I remember when we were children and opened our mother’s handbags — the scent of her lipstick trailed out. I observed that when women open makeup, they smell it first,” said Gabbana. “For me, lipstick is one of the most important things. When I see a woman made-up, I look straight to the lips,” he added.
WWD.com reports, McGrath developed three looks to represent the line. “Lustful Lips”is inspired by an Old Hollywood movie star image with dark ruby colored lips and nails. “Provocative Eyes” is about a smoky eye and pale lip, and “Sensually Natural” is made up using neutral hues.
Generally, the color palette is inspired by the Mediterranean motives with bold deep blues, blacks and golds, and a deep burgundy that is the color of Gabbana’s favorite flower, the dahlia.
The new make up line when launched nationally will include nail lacquer (from $20), mascara (from $28), lipsticks ( from $30), eye shadow duos (from $36), powder foundation (from $59), as well as bronzing powder, blush, eye and lip pencils, and lip gloss.
