Madonna Appeared in a Cub Scout Uniform at The GLAAD Awards
Madonna Fights For Scouts And Scout Leaders Rights
Madonna appeared in a scout uniform while fighting for gay rights in New York City at the 24th annual Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Awards. The first three events are going to be held current year to award the best of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) representatives among people in media.
As I mentioned above the pop star was dressed in a Cub Scout uniform and started her speech with such words as, “I wanted to be a Boy Scout but they wouldn’t let me join… I think that’s f-cked up. I can build a fire. I know how to pitch a tent. I can rescue kittens from trees. Listen, I want to do good for the community. But most importantly, I know how to scout for boys!”
She also added, “I think I should be allowed to be allowed to be a Boy Scout. And I think they should change their stupid rules.”– Addressing this sentence to the organization’s ban on gay scouts and scout leaders with the same orientation.
Madonna offered a strong suggestion while her speech at the beginning of it. Over ten minutes she was inspiringly calling for gay rights to win and strengthen in the United States and around the world. Also she contributed her speech for Anderson Cooper’s introduction, who was awarded GLAAD’s Vito Russo Award by Madonna herself.
“Most people are not comfortable with things or people that they perceive as different from themselves. And I would wager that if we just took the time to get to know one another, did our own investigations, looked beneath the surface of things, we would find that we are not so different after all.”– Madonna said, with this sentence she tried to fight some people’s barriers of perceiving gay and lesbian people in a normal way, as it’s a common thing that has a chance to be and not touched and persecuted so bad.
Regarding the incidents of unrest, caused within the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis to the imprisonment of activist music act Pussy Riot by the Russian government, Madonna called for more understanding. She asked to not to perceive the activist groups and religion no longer as the weapon for igniting hate and discrimination among people around the world.
Her words regarding it were, “What did Jesus teach? It’s in all the holy books: Love thy neighbor as thy self,” she said. “We cannot use the name of God or religion to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate. Anyone out there sitting on a fence still — a sharp fence, I hope — I hope you’re listening.”
The pop star really cares about the minorities having the equal rights as the masses with (pardon me if I picked not the appropriate word) normal orientation. To my mind, it makes her a remarkable woman, and a person fighting not for the rights but also caring about the peace among countries, people on the Earth. And what do you think of her speech?
