$20 million star-studded party in Dubai
Global financial crisis? Forget about it! Lavish party is the best ad for any business affair. Especially when it’s a new $1.5 billion marine-themed resort built off the Gulf coast on a man-made island shaped like a palm tree. Especially when you get all the A-listers to come and party with you.
When you consider $20 million, it’s a lot of money (until) you consider it up against establishing a $1.5 billion resort,” Sol Kerzner, the chairman of Kerzner International, which owns the Atlantis hotel said, AP reported.
Atlantis Palm Jumeirah resort was opened last night in Dubai. The party’s cost of $20 million included extraordinary some-million-dollar fireworks, Kylie Minogue’s 45 minutes long and allegedly $ 2-something million performance as well as all your favorite rich and famous’ staying in the new hotel for a couple of days. All expenses paid.
The guest list included such big names like Robert De Niro, Charlize Theron, Michael Jordan, Lindsay Lohan, Wesley Snipes, Mary-Kate Olsen, Shirley Bassey, Janet Jackson, Lilly Allen, Natalie Imbruglia, supermodels Agyness Deyn, Petra Nemcova and Yasmin Le Bon, tennis player Boris Becker, and many others.
Atlantis, The Palm is a 1,539 room, ocean-themed destination resort located at the centre of the crescent of the man-made Palm Jumeirah in Dubai. It opened for tourists in September. Some of the suites are ultra-wealthy. A three-bedroom, three-bathroom suite complete with a gold-leaf, 18-seat dining table will cost you at least $25,000 a night.
The 113-acre resort is generally dedicated to family entertainment. There’s a giant, open-air tank with 65,000 fish, and other sea creatures, including a rare whale-shark, that’s still a reason for dispute between the hotel managers and environmental activists.
