Selena Gomez – Youngest UNICEF Ambassador
She’s just 17 but she’s already determined to act on behalf of underprivileged children round the world.
Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena Gomez was named the youngest UNICEF Ambassador last week. Selena and UNICEF joined forces last year to protect children’s rights, and so a year later she’s officially on UNICEF team!
We’re very pleased to have Selena join the UNICEF family, as a longtime supporter, she will continue to capture and engage an audience of millions of young people to help ensure the health, education, equality and protection of every child,” Caryl Stern, President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF, said.
As an Ambassador the Disney star will be involved in educating, advocating, and fundraising, her rep added.
Every day 25,000 children die from preventable causes. I stand with UNICEF in the belief that we can change that number from 25,000 to zero,” Selena Gomez said in her speech. “I know we can achieve this because every moment, UNICEF is on the ground providing children with the lifesaving assistance needed to ensure zero becomes a reality.”
In her first official field mission to Ghana, Selena observed how UNICEF is working to address child survival issues through its programming and local initiatives.
Nice to realize young stars use their fame to help others. Go Selena!
