Katy Perry to Rolling Stone July 2011: “I prayed for my breasts to stop growing”

Katy Perry covers the July 2011 issue of Rolling Stone magazine. In her interview the singer revealed what it was like for her to grow up as a curvy teen and how she coped with her body changing during puberty. Katy told Rolling Stone that at some point she even prayed for her breasts to stop growing as she couldn’t see her feet anymore.

Katy, 26, said that as a skinny girl she first prayed for having more meat on her bones and more curvy figure but as soon as her boobs started growing all she really wanted was to get rid of them. Her ultimate choice was to tape down her breasts.

God answered [my] prayer, above and beyond by, like, 100 times, until I was like, ‘Please, stop God. I can’t see my feet any more. I was a lot more rectangular then. I didn’t understand my body. Someone in sixth grade called me ‘Over-the-shoulder boulder holder,’” Katy Perry told Rolling Stone. “I started taping them down. How long did I tape them down for? Probably until I was about 19. And, no, I don’t have any psychological pain because of it.”

I’ve never been extremely curvy so taping down breasts seems like a sadistic punishment to me. I’d never do that. And fortunately for all Katy Perry’s fans, she’s no longer ashamed of her body that’s a kind of her calling card now.
