Fashion is dead
OMG!
Still shocked and still unwilling to accept the tragic news of Alexander McQueen’s death.
Legendary fashion designer famous for his extraordinary fantasy and sense of style has committed suicide and was found hanged in his London home yesterday morning.
Though the death is “treated as non-suspicious”, it’s been revealed Alexander McQueen (real name Lee McQueen) had suffered from deep depression after his good friend and the person who actually discovered his designer genius, fashion journalist Isabella Blow, committed suicide in 2007 and his mother died on February 2 this year.
On behalf of Lee McQueen’s family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home,” the official statement from the fashion house reads. “At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee’s family. Lee’s family has asked for privacy in order to come to terms with this terrible news and we hope the media will respect this.”
McQueen’s death comes as a tragic surprise to everyone more or less acquainted with fashion world.
As soon as the news about his death was reported by the media, celebs, designers and fashion magazine editors took to Twitter to tell the world how shocked and saddened they were.
McQueen influenced a whole generation of designers,” British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman said. “His brilliant imagination knew no bounds as he conjured up collection after collection of extraordinary designs.”
It was also reported that American Vogue editor Anna Wintour learned the news via text during a BCBG show. “She got up and ran out mid-show,” the Us Weekly reports.
Rep for Kate Moss, a good friend of Alexander, said the super model was “shocked and devastated at the tragic loss of her dear friend Lee McQueen.”
Designer Matthew Williamson said McQueen’s genius “was second to none.”
McQueen’s suicide comes a week before the New York Fashion Week and a month before he was supposed to present his new collection in Paris, France.
Alexander McQueen was the creative chief behind the Alexander McQueen brand which he founded in the 1990s and later sold to Gucci Group in 2000.
Rest in peace McQueen, your astounding fashion genius will be greatly missed.
