Celebs team up to help Haitians

The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on Tuesday morning has left hundreds of people dead and many more homeless.

Haiti born Wyclef jean has asked fellow celebs for help and support for the victims.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were among the first to respond saying the Jolie-Pitt Foundation was contributing $1 million to emergency medical operations in the area.

“We are devastated by the news from Haiti. We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter,” Brangelina said in their statement for JustJared.com.

The likes of Ashton Kutcher, Rainn Wilson, Olivia Wilde, John Legend, Alyssa Milano and Selena Gomez took to Twitter to direct people to websites such as UNICEF’s that are taking donations for quake victims.

P Diddy tweeted:

God Bless Haiti!!!! God please!!! STATE OF EMERGENCY!!!”

You can also help earthquake victims by clicking “donate” at Yele.org, website of Yele Haiti Foundation founded by Wyclef jean in 2008.

Haiti today faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced. The magnitude 7.0 earthquake – and several very strong aftershocks – struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince.

I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now.

Many people have already reached out to see what they can do right now. We are asking those interested to please do one of two things: Either you can use your cell phone to text “Yele” to 501501, which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund (it will be charged to your cell phone bill), or you can visit Yele.org and click on DONATE.”

According to The New York Times, this quake is the worst the country has seen in 200 years.
