Celebrities’ secret past – alcoholic and drug-addict parents

No matter how public their lives are, there are moments in every celebrity’s life they want to keep to themselves, especially if these moments are connected with some dark family secrets from the past.

Celebrities’ crazy behavior often stems from childhood experiences, so don’t expect the likes of Lindsay Lohan and fellow trouble-heads to have a sin-free lifestyle after growing up in super unhealthy family environments.

Celebrities with alcoholic and drug-addict parents:

Nicki Minaj

Rapper Nicki Minaj never usually talks about her personal life. However, in some of her interviews she’s said she has certain fears for her mother’s well-being because of her father’s behavior.

Nicki’s father is an alcoholic and a drug addict. So during one of his binge drinking sessions he almost burnt down their house in Trinidad making Minaj’s mom send her children to the US to save them from his influence and unpredictable behavior.

Halle Berry

Back in 2007 Halle Berry confessed her father was an alcoholic and she’d been growing in the environment of domestic violence and abuse.

I grew up with domestic violence, so I have a special place in my heart for women and children who suffer,” Halle Berry said in her interview.

FYI, Halle’s sister denies the actress’ claims and says their dad has never abused anyone in their family.

Kelly Osbourne

Kelly Osbourne has a history of rehab stints. She first checked herself into the rehabilitation facility in 2004 at the age of 20 to battle addiction to pain-killers. Around this time Kelly’s father, rocker Ozzy Osbourne confessed that he’d been abusing drugs and alcohol “for the best part of my life”.

In other words, Kelly was growing up watching her dad get drunk and high.

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron’s father was an alcoholic and often abusive when drunk. So when Charlize was 15 her mother killed her dad in self-defense when he attacked her.

Demi Moore

Demi’s mother and step-father were both alcoholics. They often had fights and Moore was used to scenes of domestic violence. Demi Moore’s step-dad eventually committed suicide in 1980.

Lindsay Lohan

When I say Lindsay Lohan I think of three things – troubles, rehab, and alcohol. However, Lindsay Lohan’s story can be explained by the fact that her dad Michael Lohan once was a drug-user.

In one of her interviews Lindsay said that she first tried cocaine because of her dad:

I was only aware of cocaine because of my dad. I was terrified of it. But I tried it because I was stubborn, stupid, and wanted to see what it was like,” Lohan said.

Drew Barrymore

Growing up in Hollywood, Drew became the youngest child celebrity to ever enter rehab at 13 to battle alcoholism and cocaine addiction. Why so young? Probably because alcohol was something Drew was used to seeing in her home – her dad, actor John Barrymore, was an alcoholic.

In her old interview Drew Barrymore confessed that the very first memory of her dad was when he was drunk and threw her against the wall at the age of three.

Despite her bitter childhood memories, Drew and dad reconciled shortly before his death.
