Audrey Tautou – Chanel No. 5 ad campaign
Best-selling scent in the world, Chanel No. 5, turns 88 on May 5, 2009. Happy coming b-day!
Chanel decided to mark the event with a new costly ad campaign featuring Amelie star Audrey Tautou and French model Travis Davenport. The ad movie, 2 minute 25 second long, was made by Amelie director Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
The film will follow the story of missed encounters between strangers who travel together from Paris to Istanbul. The short film will have a happy end, if you wonder.
The spirit of this film is right for the times in which we are living. We believe this film is good timing not only for us but also for the market and the retailers,” Agreed Galantic, president and chief operating officer for Chanel Inc., said. ” No.5 conveys authenticity and that reassures the customer; we’re adding newness without adding sku’s, and we have consistently seen a bump – not only in our own fragrance sales but the overall market’s – with campaigns like this one.”
Though the film is less than three minutes long, its production was a megaproject with 250 working on it in many beautiful locations from Paris to Nice and Istanbul. The ad is said to be as vibrant as Tautou’s Amelie movie.
“We do not have a business model of launching new fragrances, but in constructing brands,” said Andrea d’Avack, president of Chanel Fragrance and Beauty.
Audrey Tautou said she’s not that kind of person to get involved with fragrance ad campaigns of perfumes she doesn’t like. And Chanel No. 5 is her special favorite.
The ad campaign will hit the Internet on May 5, 2009 but the print ad campaigns will be launched in April. The movie will have three TV versions of 60, 45 and 30 seconds, and the first 60-sec long spot will hit the U.S in fall. The uncut, two-minute-and-25-second version will also be used at counter in the U.S., Galantic said.
Almost simultaneously with the ad movie we’ll be able to enjoy Audrey Tautou in Coco Before Chanel movie that tells about young life of the fashion icon.
I’m itching to see it, you?
Here’s the trailer, it’s in French but still looking great.
