12 A-list celebrities suffering from Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Bride-to-be Katy Perry is the latest among celebrities to reveal she’s suffering from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and often “freaks out” over tiny problems.
According to Katy, the hardest time to deal with the condition is when she’s on tour:
I certainly have an OCD side when I’m on tour… What are my areas of OCD? Well, if there’s broken make-up in my purse I freak out. Also if I am around household pets and some of their fur comes off on my cardigan, then I can get pretty sharp,” Katy Perry told Q Magazine. “But my worst one is if I see a pair of sunglasses with fingerprints on them. Truly, I cannot stand it. I go ape. ‘Oh my God, I can’t breathe! Wipe them clean! Agghhh!'”
Poor Katy.
What can definitely console her is that she’s not the only one rich and famous to suffer from OCD, which is “a psychiatric disorder, specifically, an anxiety disorder. OCD is most commonly characterized by a subject’s obsessive drive to perform a particular task or set of tasks, compulsions commonly termed rituals.”
The likes of Megan Fox, Justin Timberlake, Penelope Cruz and Leonardo DiCaprio are well known OCD victims. Check out what they’re obsessive about below.
Megan Fox revealed her condition in May this year. She said public toilets and restaurant silverware freaked her out.
This is a sickness, I have an illness, this is not OK anymore,” Megan Fox told Allure. “I’m never doing that again [using toilets without seat covers]. Every time someone uses a bathroom and they flush, all the bacteria are shot into the air,” she added about public toilets.
Putting my mouth where a million other mouths have been, just knowing all the bacteria that you carry in your mouth? Ucch!” she explained the silverware thing.
At least that explains while Megan is not really into Hollywood party lifestyle with all those clubs, restaurants and strange houses.
Cameron Diaz is obsessed with doorknobs. She’s known for opening doors with her elbows to avoid touching germ-infested knobs.
I’m not scared of germs. I’m just not into other people’s fluids,” Diaz explained.
Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt is obsessed about closet doors. Jennifer says she’s inherited her OCD from her mother.
Except we have [OCD] about different things. My Mom counts steps, while I cannot go to sleep if there are any cabinet doors or closets open in my house. It’s very strange and weird,” Jennifer Love Hewitt revealed.
Inception star Leonardo DiCaprio is obsessive about cracks in the pavement, gum stains and doorways.
According to reports, when filming Aviator Leo was often late on set because “of the compulsion to re-trace his footsteps avoiding the cracks in the pavement.” Also he once confessed he had to force himself not to step on every gum stain he sees on the pavement when walking in the street and not to walk through the doorway several times again and again.
Justin Timberlake says he has a “complicated” mix of OCD and attention deficit disorder. He’s crazy about symmetry and tries to make sure things are lined up perfectly. Besides, it freaks him out when his fridge is not stocked with certain kinds of food.
Just like Justin, soccer star David Beckham has a thing about symmetry.
He’s got that obsessive compulsive thing where everything has to match,” his wife Victoria Beckham said. “If you open our fridge, it’s all co-ordinated down either side. We’ve got three fridges – food in one, salad in another and drinks in the third. In the drinks one, everything is symmetrical. If there’s three cans of Diet Coke, he’d throw one away rather than having three – because it has to be an even number.”
Craaaazy.
Jessica Alba‘s buzz-bug is perfectionism.
I can be a little obsessive compulsive about things, but that just means that when I do things, I do them proficiently and I do them to the best of my ability,” Alba said. “I think a lot of actors have OCD. I think it’s part of being creative, whether your outlet is acting or science or maths. Whatever it is, it takes some sort of drive to get anywhere.”
Director Woody Allen is obsessive about … death.
It’s not that I’m afraid to die. I just don’t want to be there when it happens, Woody Allen joked about his OCD.
Reports also claim he’s crazy about some kinds of food. Like, when making What’s New Pussycat? he ate potage du jour and sole daily for six months.
Mogul Donald Trump has a germ phobia. That’s why he unwillingly shakes hands (especially with teachers) and refuses to touch elevator’s ground floor button.
30 Rock star Alec Baldwin is obsessive about cleaning.
I’m very OCD, I find” Alec said. “I come home and I’m like, ‘Did somebody move that book?’ I just notice everything. I’ll have to catch a plane, like I’m in a hurry to go somewhere, and I’m in my kitchen rinsing out the glasses. I have a housekeeper who can do that and I’m sitting there cleaning the glass.”
Angelina Jolie’s ex husband Billy Bob Thornton (the one whose name she tattooed on her left upper arm and then replaced with geographic coordinates of places where every of her six kids was born) usually performs repetitive compulsive actions.
I have a little bit of OCD,” Thornton said. “The simple ones I can explain to you. The more complex ones, I don’t even know how to tell anybody.”
Like, for instance, when picking his mail from the mail box he takes it out and puts it back in again three times before actually taking it out.
The list can go on and on, but the matter is that other celebs don’t reveal their crazy obsessions to media.

None of these are true examples of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Obsessive tendancies are very different from the disorder itself. Look up the DSM-IV for the requirements for a diagnosis.
