$1 million raised, celebrities are back to life & on Twitter
They promised not to tweet or facebook until Alicia Keys’ charity Keep A Child Alive raises $1 million to help AIDS victims. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Khole Kardashian, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Lady GaGa, Ryan Seacrest and others “digitally died” on December 1st and were brought back to life as early as yesterday after the target $1 million had been finally raised.
Late last week it was reported very few fans actually supported the cause as the Digital Life Sacrifice had only raised about $200,000 by Friday. By the end of the weekend $500,000 had been raised.
It’s billionaire and philanthropist Stewart Rahr that we should thank for getting celebs back online. He donated staggering $500,000 to support the campaign making it possible for the A-listers to return to tweeting and facebooking on Monday morning.
So stoked to be back on twitter! Special shout out to Stewie Rah Rah for his generous donation,” Ryan Seacrest said in his first tweet in almost a week.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of the fans, friends and artists who joined this cause,” Alicia Keys said in her message. “I’m incredibly inspired by all of the donations that have been made to help us achieve our goal and so humbled by the outpour of support from everyone.”
Justin Timberlake is alive! We raised $1mil to help KCA fight AIDS. Thank you so much and never stop buying life!” Justin posted on Twitter.
In her first message in six days Kim Kardashian said she had missed all of her followers and was happy to be back from the dead.
Lady GaGa was the only star to have a non-thank-you-i-am-back-to-life-related first tweet:
Havin a little too much fun on tourbus. Played the album for label, the rest is History. Amen Hooker.”
FYI, while all the stars who agreed to support the effort kept their promise of “digital death” till the minute it was officially announced the campaign had raised $1 million, Usher was the only one to walk out on the charity initiative posting his first tweet before the money was raised. Usher broke the promise to wish happy birthday to Rico Love. Lame.
