‘The Hurt Locker’ is sued for millions of dollars
US Army bomb disposal expert Jeffrey Sarver has filed a lawsuit against the makers of the Oscar nominated film The Hurt Locker claiming the Jeremy Renner’s character is based on him and the makers simply exploited his war experience for millions of dollars in box office sales.
Sarver filed the multi-million dollar lawsuit Tuesday mentioning The Hurt Locker‘s producer Mark Boal, director Kathryn Bigelow, and distributor Summit Entertainment in the papers.
The court papers read: “The Hurt Locker motion picture and DVD are nothing more than an exploitation of a real life honorable, courageous, long serving member of our armed forces, by greedy multi-billion dollar ‘entertainment’ corporations.”
Summit was quick to respond noting than the movie was based on a fictional screenplay by Mark Boal and had nothing to do with Sgt. Sarver and his military experience, saying the studio hoped for the quick resolution of the claims.
The movie’s producers never really imagined the film would get so much free PR before the 2010 Oscars where The Hurt Locker is nominated in 9 categories, including the best movie, the best director and screenplay.
