New Nightmare on Elm Street in the works
A burned-faced guy in the red-and-green sweater and razor gloves is revived from film ashes by Samuel Bayer, who directed the Nirvana video for ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and now is set ot direct Nightmare on Elm Street.
What is Bayer’s Krueger like? “Nosferatu meets Ed Gaines,” Samuel says. Sounds exciting.
However, the horror spirit will remain the same, the producers assure.
Freddy is an iconic character like Jason, and when we’ve made these movies we haven’t deviated from the way [the characters] look. [So] in Nightmare there is no changing the glove. There will be the sweater. We’re not going to have him coming out in an Izod,” producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form said, according to PerezHilton.com.
The only big change in the movie is the main character. It will still be Freddie Krueger but it won’t be played by Robert Englund, the one who portrayed him before. Meet the new Freddie – Jackie Earle Haley (Rorschach from Watchmen)
Looking at his performance in Watchmen, here’s a guy playing a character under a mask yet you feel tremendous empathy for him,” director Bayer said. “And in Nightmare, he is going to be under prosthetic make-up. You have to feel something for the character. The greatest villains are multi-dimensional and I think he will bring that to the character.”
The filming will start on May 5 in Chicago.
