List of 2011 Oscar nominees

2011 Oscar nominees were announced yesterday at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills. Precious star Mo’Nique and Academy of Motion Picture Art and Science president Tom Sherak announced the nominations for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards at the highly anticipated event to reveal that Tom Hooper directed and Colin Firth starring The King’s Speech leads this year’s list with impressive 12 noms.
The movie is closely followed by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen‘s True Grit with ten nominations, and Inception and The Social Network with eight.
Just like we predicted last week, Natalie Portman is nominated in the best actress category for her role in Black Swan (the movie is also up for the best motion picture nod).
I am so honored and grateful to the Academy for this recognition,” Natalie Portman said. “It is a wonderful culmination of the ten-year journey with Darren to make this film. Making Black Swan is already the most meaningful experience of my career, and the passion shown for the film has completed the process of communication between artists and audience. I am so thankful for the support we have received and I share this honor with the entire cast and crew of the film, especially [director] Darren Aronofsky.”
New father Javier Bardem will compete with Colin Firth, Jeff Bridges (True Grit), Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network), and James Franco (127 Hours) for the best actor award. Javier is nominated for his role in Biutiful.
It’s really a huge honor to have been nominated in a non-English speaking performance and in the name of all my colleagues in Spain and mine I want to show my gratitude to the Academy for support and a recognition in this nomination for the movie Biutiful,” Javier Bardem said in the statement.
The youngest nominee this year is True Grit‘s 14-year old star Hailee Steinfeld who’s joined by Amy Adams (The Fighter), Helena Bonham Carter (The King’s Speech), Melissa Leo (The Fighter) and Jacki Weaver (Animal Kingdom) in the best supporting actress category.

2011 Oscars will be held on February 27th at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles and co-hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway.
