James Bond breaks records

New James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace, has set a new record for Bond franchise with its weekend’s box office of $70.4 million, AP reported.
The previous opening-weekend record for a Bond flick was set by 2002′s Die Another Day with its $47 million and 8.1 million tickets sold. In comparison, Quantum of Solace had 9.8 million tickets sold.
Experts explain the phenomenon by the fact that this time audience was ready to see Daniel Craig portraying James Bond, unlike the previous time when he was an unknown actor and he had to follow in footsteps of Pierce Brosnan.
With Casino Royale, people were rediscovering the franchise in a way with Daniel Craig as James Bond,” head of distribution for Sony Rory Bruer said. “Quite frankly, they loved it. They loved the movie, and they loved him in the role, so I think by the time Quantum of Solace was ready, audiences in the U.S. as well as the world audience was way ready.”

Overseas the movie opened two weeks ago and has so far earned $322 million.
Well, we’ll see what happens next as Thanksgiving weekend is considered to be the most profitable in ticket sales. However, Quantum of Solace has strong rivals to compete with to win movie-goers’ hearts: the vampire romance Twilight, Bolt with John Travolta and Miley Cyrus, and Four Christmases starring Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn.
