Best day in box office history
According to Entertainment Weekly and box office analytics, Christmas 2009 has become the best day in the history of the box office with staggering $278 million earned during the Christmas weekend.
The top three most popular films and major box office makers include two premieres and Avatar that still earns well 10 days after its December 20th premiere.
Avatar topped Christmas weekend box office with $75 million in ticket sales. According to EW, the movie dipped a slim 2% in its second weekend, bringing its 10-day domestic total to an impressive $212.3 million, half of what was spent on making the movie.
Best-ever Christmas weekend debut, Guy Richie’s Sherlock Holmes ended the week with $65.4 million in the box office pocket followed by family comedy Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel ($50.2 million).
The top five of Christmas box office also includes It’s Complicated ($22.1 million) starring Meryl Streep, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin, and Up In The Air ($11.8 million).
P.S. I’m not surprised Avatar tops the list, it’s the best movie I’ve seen in years. James Cameron is a genius!
