10 Singers Turned Actors

Talent is multifaceted, so it’s obvious some singers believe they can take their singing to the new level and become movie stars. Some singers-turned-actors do prove to be good in both fields, while others’d better stick to acting.

The latest in the line of singers-turned-actors is Christina Aguilera whose movie debut Burlesque is coming out in late November this year. In the movie Aguilera co-stars with Cher, Kristen Bell, Cam Gigandet and Stanley Tucci.

Christina plays s small town girl Ali with big voice and ambition. Ali goes to Hollywood and finds her way to a club run by a former dancer (Cher) to find out she’s in love with burlesque.

Hopefully, Christina’s movie debut will be good enough to include her in my list. We’ll see it in three months.

10. Britney Spears

Britney made her big screen debut in 2002 starring as the lead in Crossroads. Her acting was slammed and the movie sucked but still it made everyone talk about Britney Spears again. Her next big thing was her cameo in How I Met Your Mother in 2008.

9. Madonna

I’ll never forget Madonna in Evita (2006). She was truly brilliant. However, her next movies like, The Next Best Thing or Swept Away showed that the Material Girl was a much better singer than an actress. Fortunately for all of us, Madonna seemed to realize it, too.

8. Eminem

Eminem starred in the autobiographic 8 Mile in 2002 and we loved it. Little is known about why he’s been so reluctant to play in movies after that film but never give up hope, right?

7. Jessica Simpson

Famous for her big voice Jessica Simpson played the light-headed Daisy Dukes in Dukes of Hazzard (2005) and then took her acting career to the next level with movies such as Employee of the Month (2006) and Blonde Ambition (2007). In my mind, Jess is the one who’d better stick to singing after all.

6. 50 Cent

He famously lost over 60 pounds for his new movie earlier this year, so seems like 50 Cent truly enjoys his new job as an actor. Apart from his new movie Twelve, his other movie projects include 13, Caught In the Crossfire, Gun, Vengeance and Things Fall Apart.

5. Beyoncé Knowles

Beyonce has made her name in both music and movie industries starring in such well received movies as Dreamgirls (2006), Cadillac Records (2008), Obsessed (2009).

4. Ice Cube

Ice Cube first came to public notice as a singer and songwriter with N.W.A. As a solo artist he’s sold over 10 million copies and discovered several other artists. He made his big screen debut in Boyz n the Hood (1991) and alter starred in Trespass (1992), Dangerous Ground (1997), Anaconda (1997), as well as in The Longshots (2008) and other flicks.

3. Justin Timberlake

Starting as a curly boy from the Mickey Mouse Club and the real cutie in N’Sync, Justin Timberlake has made a great career as a solo artist, actor, designer and model. He made his movie debut in Alpha Dog (2006) and then lent his voice to Artie in Shrek The Third (2007). His other movies include Love Guru (2008), The Social Network (check out the trailer), Bad Teacher and Friends with Benefits.

2. Will Smith

First known as the Fresh Prince, Will Smith then became everyone’s favorite movie star after such films as Independence Day (1996), Bad Boys (1995), Men In Black and I Am Legend (2007). His new project is said to be the Biblical tale of Cain and Abel.

1. Jennifer Lopez

Starting as a dancer and singer J Lo then tried her hand in the brand new sphere – acting. Judging by the impressive list of her movies – she does have a flair for it! Jennifer has starred in such movies as The Back-up Plan, Monster-in-Law, Shall We Dance, The Cell, The Wedding Planner, Maid in Manhattan, Jersey Girl, Gigli, Enough, Angel Eyes, Out Of Sight, Anaconda and more.
