Ok, it’s officially several hours before the greatest movie ceremony of the year, 2009 Oscars.

Are you excited? I’m personally itching to watch it!

It’s the 81st Annual Academy Awards ceremony, so it’s been almost a century since actors, actresses, directors, screenplay-writers and others involved in movie making, took part in the very first Oscar ceremony held in LA. It means there must be a lot of interesting stuff about the Oscars that we don’t probably know.

You know how much I love all kinds of lists and stats, so after a short investigation into the object I came up with the following list, kinda a page from my very personal Book of Oscars Records.

HIGHEST NUMBER OF INDIVIDUAL OSCARS RECEIVED

Walk Disney was honored with his first Oscar in 1932 (thank you Mickey Mouse), receiving 29 golden trophies during his career, becoming the greatest winner in history.

GREATEST WINNERS OF THE NIGHT

It’s considered great luck to win Oscar in five major categories that are Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor and Actress.

There are only three films in Oscar history that managed to win in all these categories at once. They’re It Happened One Night (1934), One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (1975), and Silence Of The Lambs (1991).

CONSECUTIVE YEARS’ WINNER

I don’t know about you but I love Tom Hanks and consider him an extremely talented actor. His portrait of an AIDS victim in Philadelphia was outstanding and beyond praise. No wonder he got an Oscar for it.

I also like Forest Gump. The Academy and critics do too. The film brought Hanks his consecutive Oscar next year.

NOM RECORD BREAKER

Being nominated for an Oscar is a cool thing, all actors say that. Jack Nicholson and Maryl Streep know more about it than anybody else.

Streep is a real record breaker as she’s had 15 nods all in all. Nicholson is following into her steps having 12 noms, eight of them are in the Best Actor category.

BEST ACTRESS OF ALL TIMES

It’s definitely Katherine Hepburn as she achieved a record 4 Oscars for Best Actress and Supporting Actress.

It’s worth mentioning that all American sweetheart and never dying style and beauty icon Marilyn Monroe has never won an Oscar.

11 Out Of 17

That’s the highest number of awards received by one and the same film. There are so far only three films that managed to reach this record level of critics’ love. They are Ben-Hur (1952), Titanic (1997), and Lord of The Rings: return of The King (2003).

MOST MEMORABLE SPEECH

Well, it’s very personal. But the speech that instantly comes to my mind is Halle Berry’s in 2002 when she won Best Actress for Monster’s Ball. By the way, she was the first Afro-American to win Oscar in this category. It was a historical moment, no doubt.

P.S. I just loooved her dress at that ceremony!

WORST & FREAKIEST OSCAR DRESSES

Well, I have two record breakers.

Firstly, it’s Cher at 1988 Oscars. What was she thinking about putting on that barely-there beaded dress? Well, I might be badly informed about the 1980s fashion but think that was too much even for extravagant Cher.

Secondly, it’s the swan lady Bjork at 2001 Oscars. It’s so far the craziest dress I’ve ever seen.

Well, it’s enough for now. I’ve got a long list to go so if you’re interested I can post it some time soon.

I wonder if today’s Oscars will add new items to my list. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button has 13 noms, so will it get added to the 11 of 17 category?

Can Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, or maybe Jennifer Aniston and John Mayer, or Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens lead in the Best Oscar couple list?
