How many tweens could tune in to watch the 82ns Annual Academy Awards ceremony on March 7, 2010 if it were announced Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner starring Twilight Saga: Eclipse would debut a fresh new clip during the show?
The ratings could actually get sky high. The Hollywood Reporter suggests introducing movie trailers during Oscars. While the Oscar bosses haven’t yet commented on the suggestion, the source claims it could definitely boost ratings as well as be a successful new addition to the pretty conservative and traditional Oscar ceremony.
It goes without saying, showing trailers is a purely commercial thing but it can help the Oscar get higher ratings and reach out to younger audiences.
FYI, when MTV screened an exclusive New Moon footage at MTV Movie Awards in June 2009, ratings jumped 92%.
“The Academy Awards should be a celebration of film, the one night of the year when movie fans around the world gather to watch the best the industry has to offer. The awards honor the achievements of the past year, and adding A-list trailers to the telecast would give that moviegoing audience a taste of the great stuff to come,” the source continues.
Thumbs up for the idea.
