2008 as it was

Ok, 2008 is almost over so it’s time to sum up what we’ve seen, enjoyed, got crazy or furious at during the year. Think making another list of mine, the last one this year.

TEEN OF THE YEAR

Let’s begin with teens. The Teen of the Year is definitely Miley Cyrus. She’s made a way from a Disney Channel star to one of the most influential women in entertainment. She’s been different, shocking and amusing. She made a stir with her Vanity Fair shoot and she’s celebrated her sweet 16 in Disney Land. She’s # 1 teen of 2008.

Although, I do belive we must praise the Jonas Brothers, Chris Brown, Taylor Swift and Demi Lovato for the great work they’ve done. Though not on the top, they are surely among the best teens of the year!


BREAKTHROUGH OF THE YEAR

I would name several artists who did manage to impress us with their songs, talent and originality. First of all, it’s Duffy, a Welsh songstress with magnificent strong voice and genuine lyrics.

Then it’s Katy Perry. Her ‘I Kissed a Girl’ is not only the hottest lesbian-friendly tune # 1 but it’s the first of a series of successful singles like ‘Hot N Cold’ and recently released ‘Thinking of You.’

And finally, it’s Leona Lewis. The British singer and X Factor winner won the A-list star status with her songs, her voice and her beauty.

COMEBACK OF THE YEAR

It’s definitely and undoubtedly Britney Spears. From a miserable and devastated mother who lost custody of her children to a glorious artist whose newly released album and single smashed charts. Pop princess is back!

BABIES

Well, this year was pretty fruitful, in both figurative and literal meanings. 2008 is the year of Hollywood baby boom. Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, Gwen Stefani, Cate Blanchett, J Lo, Christina Aguilera, and Ashlee Simpson, I can go on and on with the A-names who became parents this year. But the most amazing baby is definitely the one of Thomas Beatie, a pregnant man, who actually was born a woman.

ELOPEMENTS

From Jessica Alba and Ashlee Simpson to Jenna Bush, Scarlett Johansson and Mariah Carey, wedding was definitely a hot trend this past year. But the wedding we’re unlikely to soon forget is the one of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi.

POWER COUPLES

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were the most popular couple of 2008. Hardly a week passed by without a new cover, a new interview, a new candid photo. Everyone is curious about their life on and off screen. We’ve all caught the Brangelina virus and will unlikely recover soon. We must admit the fact that they made good films this year and a significant part of this public attention is connected with their work.

SPLIT OF THE YEAR

Madonna and Guy Ritchie take the lead. No doubt. Though Paris Hilton and Benji Madden also deserve mentioning.

SOCIALITE OF THE YEAR

I know you might expect me to say it’s Paris but I’d say it’s Victoria Beckham. She’s moved from England to LA bringing English chic to Tinseltown. She’s tried her hand n everything from designing jeans to making fragrance, she’s visited all most glamorous events and set a number of trends herself.

TRAGEDY OF THE YEAR

That’s the saddest part of the list. The saddest and most shocking story of 2008 is Heath Ledger’s premature death at the age of 28 on January 22, 2008 as the result of accidental prescription drugs abuse.

People’s hearts also went to Jennifer Hudson who lost three members of her family in a murder case, which is still not closed.

CRISIS OF THE YEAR

Though it’s a lot more political and economic than showbiz related, the global financial crisis is definitely the crisis of the year.

That was the year 2008. Hope we’ll have a lot to gossip about in 2009!
