The 1920′s Eton Crop
If there is one perfect way to be in fashion at the moment it has to be to embrace the retro trend, and if there is one decade that is having a fashion moment it has to be the 1920s.
Twenties style is hugely popular at the moment both in popular culture, with programmes like Broadwalk Empire and a film adaptation of the Great Gatsby due out, and catwalk shows with the likes of Ralph Lauren and Holly Fulton showing off twenties style clothing.
One simple way of achieving a perfect 1920s look is with a great hairstyle. The 1920s saw a move away from the traditional longer hairstyles that had gone before. The pinned up styles of the Victorian era were replaced with shorter sleeker and quite frankly revolutionary styles.
One such style was the Eton crop which was named after the school because there boys wore their hair a little bit longer than was normal; in fact the style was also known as the boyish bob. It is a short, sleek and slicked back style and was a sign of women’s growing independence. What’s more it was the perfect shape to be worn under the decade’s cloche hats.
However, it is a hair style that doesn’t have to stay in the 1920s – it can be brought bang up to date. In fact another key look on the autumn/winter catwalks was androgyny and this look is perfect for that!
The first thing to do is straighten your crop with some flat irons. Use the new ghd limited edition Scarlet styler which has been inspired by the dramatic 1920s look, for the ultimate 20’s experience. The look needs to be really straight and sleek so it’s vital not to skip this step. After that run some gel through your hair to slick it down and you have a perfect Eton crop. If you really want you can throw on a cloche hat – but who would want to cover that great hair style!
