Sharon Stone is officially prohibited in China. The Chinese PR-company for Christian Dior stopped using the face of Basic Instinct actress to promote their cosmetics. All the advertisements and posters with her pictures have already been removed from stores in Beijing.
The reason for that was her not very smart comment during The Cannes International Film Festival. She was walking the red carpet and when asked if she has heard of the recent disaster in China her reply was:
Of course I have. Well you know at first I thought I’m not happy with the way the Chinese are treating the Tibetans….and I’ve been concerned with should we have the Olympics because they’re not being nice to the Dalai Lama who’s a good friend of mine. And then all this earthquake and stuff happened and I thought, ‘Is that Karma, when you’re not nice and the bad things happen to you?’”
She has a point right there, but it is wrong to say that an earthquake that took away 67,000 lives is Karma for not treating the Tibetans right. The right point is that you should expect things come your way the way you live your life. But Dalai Lama is a good friend of mine as well, and I am sure he would never say or even think it the way you do. How dare you talk about ‘being nice’ when you hurt feelings of billions of people by saying that. People are suffering, they are homeless and lost their families, and that is not funny.
Sharon Stone films will no longer be played in theatres in China and Hong Kong.
Stone’s fans in China are sad and disappointed. Wrong move.
