The film is now the biggest debut ever in U.S. box office history.
Beating the reigning champ Spider-Man 3, The Dark Knight set box-office records this weekend, bringing in more than $155 million from the widest opening ever – 4,366 theaters through Friday to Sunday.
The film is great, Heath Ledger played his best role ever, but nonetheless the greatest success in the box office history must be for the sad fact that Heath Ledger died. Actor’s sorrowful death brought the film its legendary fame.

Now The Dark Knight is poised to take on all-time champs like Titanic, which earned more than $600 million.
