Anne Hathaway is Starving Herself For ‘Les Miserables’ Role

Anne Hathaway is taking her diet to the extreme to reflect accurately her Les Miserables character, Fantine. The 29-year-old is said to be restricting herself to no more than 500 calories per day — which amounts to roughly two apples! Anne has been ordered by movie execs to shed 16lb in less than 20 days so director Tom Hooper can shoot the tragic character’s death bed scenes. Anne is currently a size 10, which has been fine for shooting scenes before single mum and prostitute Fantine falls gravely ill. By the end of filming she will be an emaciated size six! Yuck!

Anne Hathaway is keeping an extrimely strict diet to lose weight to play Fantine – her latest role in Les Miserables movie adaptation.

A source told the U.K. Mirror:

Anne is playing a destitute factory worker-come-lady of the night. Unfortunately, she only has 15 to 20 days to lose as much weight as possible — up to a stone-and-a-half (21 pounds) — because she’s been filming the scenes showing her fit and healthy, almost slightly chubby. It’s not ideal but, as with any high-budget movie, there are strict time constraints.”

Producers insist that they’re keeping a tight watch on Hathaway’s health, since extreme weight loss of this kind can have an adverse effect on the body. The source added:

Anne knows the risk of such an extreme diet and will undergo weekly medicals to make sure everything is still functioning as it should do.”

I hope they pay her enough to undergo all this ?! Gaining and losing weight it not good for one long term…

Hathaway is no stranger to having to lose weight for roles. Last year she lost weight to play Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises. She started doing Bikram yoga and push-ups and eating vegetables, fish and fruit to shape down.

She also slimmed down to play Andrea Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada. Oh, yes, surviving on 500 calories will certainly make you miserable…
