Lady GaGa named fashion icon at 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) named Lady GaGa the fashion icon 2011 at the annual Fashion Awards held in New York yesterday.

Lady GaGa took a break from promoting her new album Born This Way to appear at the event and accept the award. GaGa known for being able to drastically change her look and style for artistic purposes looked almost unrecognizable at this year’s CFDA Awards in a blue wig, minimal makeup and a sexy mini dress with an impressive ruffled train.

Looking more like Pinocchio’s Blue Fairy than a pop queen Lady GaGa looked quite pretty without prosthetic cheek bones and dramatic eye makeup. However, she had her dress to help her reveal the wild side – the bodice was decorated with spikes that looked pretty fierce.

And if just trying to remind us she was still the same crazy Lady GaGa, Mother Monster completed the look with her favorite 12-inch platform booties.

No doubt, Lady GaGa was the most extravagantly clad among 2011 CFDA Fashion Awards winners and the brightest star on the purple redcarpet.

FYI, making her acceptance speech Lady GaGa said Vogue‘s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour was the first to congratulate her on the award via a text message but GaGa didn’t get which Anna was texting her and took Wintour for her old friend Anna Treblin. In her reply GaGa named Vogue’s editor “a b*tch”:

When I was told I won this award, Anna Wintour sent me a text message. She text messages. So she sent me a text message, and it said, ‘We’re so excited to tell you you won the CFDA fashion icon award.’ And I actually thought it was Anna Treblin, who was one of my very close friends and [my stylist] Nicola’s assistant, who I go out and have drinks with all the time. I have a couple Annas in my phone, so my reply was, ‘Yes, b*tch, we did it.’ Quite quickly I got a reply that said, ‘How lovely, and we will all be waiting to see what you will wear, and then I thought, ‘Well won’t you be helping me choose what I will wear?’ And then I said, ‘Oh! it’s Anna Wintour.’”
