The 67th Peabody Awards Ceremony

The Peabody Awards… When I first read that they had been awarded for 67th time in 2008, I realized I had no idea what that was. I just never heard anyone saying, oh, I got a Peabody Award.

So, here is a little introduction to those who also have no idea what this award is for.

The George Foster Peabody Awards – Initially The Peabody Awards were only honoring radio program broadcasts. In 1948 television programs were included and from 1981 on cable television programs are eligible too.

It turns out to be prestigious and I am still shocked I’ve never heard about it. And I know all kinds of awards, but not this one. The Peabody Award is award for electronic media. It is given by University of Georgia graduates of Journalism and Mass Communication, and is awarded annually.

The Peabodys, the oldest awards in broadcasting, are considered among the most prestigious and selective prizes in electronic media. The Peabody Awards recognize excellence and meritorious work by radio and television stations, networks, Webcasters, producing organizations and individuals. The 16-member Peabody Board is a distinguished panel of television critics, industry practitioners and experts in culture and the arts. Selection is made by the Board following review by special screening committees of University of Georgia faculty, students, and staff. Cable Peabody winners this year included: Comedy’s Central’s The Colbert Report; BBC America for White Horse; Showtime for Dexter; HBO for To Die in Jerusalem; Sundance Channel for Nimrod Nation; and mtvU for Half of Us.

Producer Harvey Weinstein got onstage to accept an award for Project Runway, insisting that Miss Heidi Klum gets up onstage with him.

German super-model was dressed in super elegant white dress, sexy black high heels and red lipstick. Classic Hollywood.
