Once again Charlize looked stunning on the red carpet of Venice Film Festival. This time she premiered her new movie The Burning Plain in which she starred in and acted as executive produced.
The Burning Plain is a drama directed by Guillermo Arriaga, best known for scripting three movies helmed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu: Amores Perros, 21 Grams and Babel.
Arriaga explains:
It is an exploration of this mystery of a woman who has an emotional journey that takes her to extremes. I wanted to explore how people can get so damaged.”

The past and the present have a curious way of effecting one another as several people separated by time and space are about to discover - Mariana, a 16-year-old girl trying to put together the shattered lives of her parents in a Mexican border town; Sylvia (Charlize Theron), a woman in Portland who must undertake an emotional odyssey to burnish a sin from her past; Gina (Kim Basinger) and Nick, a couple who must deal with an intense and clandestine affair; and Maria (Jennifer Lawrence), a young girl who helps her parents find redemption, forgiveness and love. The five will discover that their actions may mean the difference between life and death as well as their own journeys into seeking redemption…and whether or not they will ever find it.

The Burning Plain, screened and In Competition at the Venice Film Festival, is a highly convincing directorial debut.
Arriaga’s gripping plot combines strong performances by actresses from three generations: Kim Basinger, Charlize Theron, and Jennifer Lawrence, who just turned 18.
At the photocall for The Burning Plain Charlize was wearing a fuchsia dress and elegant black heels and her blond hair tumbling across her face.
During the press conference one hot Brazilian reporter stood up, invited her out on a date, and asked which side of the bed she slept on.
“The side that you’re not on,” she replied.
