War drama by Kathryn Bigalow leads the list of winners at 2010 BAFTA Awards scooping as many as six awards at the most prestigious British ceremony.
The Hurt Locker that also leads the list of 2010 Oscar nominees was named the best film with best director, best original screenplay, best sound, editing and cinematography.
Accepting her Best Director award Ms. Bigalow said it was an honor for her to get an award from people she’d “been inspired by for decades.”
Aspiring British actress Carey Mulligan won the Best Actress nod for her work in An Education. Carey said she didn’t think she would win and confessed she hadn’t prepared any acceptance speech.
Carey’s skyrocketing success is fantastic since An Education is her movie debut.
Colin Firth was named the Best Leading Actor for his work in Tom Ford directed A Single Man.
Loved his acceptance speech:
I think an encounter with Tom Ford is to come away resuscitated, a little more worldly, better informed, better groomed, more fragrant and more nominated than one has ever been before. I’ve worked with a lot of great directors and he’s definitely up there with the very best of them.”
