Video: Angelina Jolie visits Pakistan to raise awareness for flood victims
UN Goodwill Ambassador since 2001 and one of the most famous people in the world, Angelina Jolie arrived in Pakistan yesterday to raise awareness for victims of the flood that struck the country in early August and has already killed more than 1,500 Pakistanis and affected more than 17 million people.
Angelina visited the Kandaro II Camp in Nowshera, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of the country to talk to the flood victims and see the areas affected by the natural disaster.
Not to attract additional attention and not to violate traditions, Jolie was wearing a black shawl over her head while visiting the areas and talking to people. Must say, Angie looked very beautiful in that scarf.
Angelina Jolie found time in her extremely hectic schedule to visit Pakistan and draw global attention to the national disaster.
During the press conference in Pakistan Angelina Jolie said she was moved by the people she met and hoped her visit would help bring attention to people in need:
It’s an extraordinarily complex situation,” Angelina Jolie said. “These are very, very long, extended situations that need our constant support for a very, very long time. I am very moved by [these people] and I hope that I am able to, today and tomorrow, be able to do something to help bring attention to the situation for all of the people in need in Pakistan,” Jolie went on. “They have lost their homes. And the floodwater was as high as the ceiling when you see the mark, and I was surprised by that. All of their homes were washed away, and it is not just a tent that is washed away in somebody’s mind, it is a home, and it is collapsed, and it is mud, and it is their entire life. Many of them lost their children during the floods.”
Jolie’s visit to Pakistan ends today and she’ll get back to her promotional duties for her latest movie Salt. Prior to the visit, Jolie had donated $100,000 to help the victims.
