Patrick Swayze lost battle against cancer
Actor Patrick Swayze died yesterday after a long battled against pancreatic cancer. He was 57.
Swayze who’s best known for his roles in Dirty Dancing (1987) and Ghost (1990) was diagnosed with a fatal disease in January 2008. After he went public with the diagnosis he never stopped working on his ABC drama, The Beast.
After months of chemotherapy in spring 2009 Patrick was seen looking healthier and happier raising hope his battle against the disease was successful.
However, in his interview with Barbara Walters in early 2009 he said he only hoped he would be still alive when the cure for his type of cancer is invented:
I’d say five years is pretty wishful thinking,” he said in the interview. “Two years seems likely if you’re going to believe statistics. I want to last until they find a cure, which means I’d better get a fire under it.”
Swayze’s publicist said in her statement yesterday:
Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months.”
My thoughts go out to Patrick’s family and friends.
We will miss you.
