Chris Brown gives up
If you hoped to see Chris Brown at the 2009 Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards on March 28, I regret to announce you will neither see him perform there, nor be able to vote for him to get the Favorite Male Singer or Favorite Song award at the show.
Chris Brown officially withdrew his name from the Kids’ Choice Awards nominees list.
Chris very much appreciates the support of his fans and the honor they have paid him in the way of nominations for Favorite Male Singer and Favorite Song. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding the incident last month has shifted the focus from the music to whether he should be allowed to be among those nominated,” Chris’s rep said.
Nickelodeon agreed with the singer’s decision to pull out though before his official statement was released they were eager to have him there despite the backlash.
We are confirming that Chris Brown has decided to withdraw his nominations from the Kids’ Choice Awards,” they said in a statement. “We agree with and respect his decision and are looking forward to presenting a great event for our audience.”
Earlier this month Twitter group launched a 3,000-signature-strong online petition to ban Brown from the awards show, as parents were outraged and afraid he could be the bad role-model for the kids who’d watch the ceremony.
Is it the official start of the career end? We’ll see.
