Celebrities in tax debt
They’ve got a lot of money on bank accounts but still (oops!) forget to pay the tax man. From reality TV stars to big screen actors and singers, who are these law-breaking celebrities with tax debt?
Let’s start with minor offenses.
Keeping Up With The Kardashians lil sister Khloe Kardashian got in the tax problem last week when it was revealed she owed California $18,490.74 in back taxes from 2007.
Khloe was quick to deny the reports saying the tax had already been paid but she gave the funds to her old accountant, who never used the money to pay the tax. The new good accountant was supposed to take care of her money from now on.
The Expendables star, writer and director Sylvester Stallone is now facing allegations that the movie’s crew didn’t pay for shooting in Brazil. According to sources, Stallone and his team owe as much as $2 million.
And here’s something I wasn’t expecting to find out.
J Lo’s all-so-perfect hubby Marc Anthony once was found guilty of avoiding his tax obligations for four years in a row. He owed $2.5 million in taxes but was quick to admit the crime and eventually avoided jail time.
Back in the days when not many of us knew who Will Smith was, the now famous actor owed $2.8 million in taxes from the earnings he generated at The Fresh Prince of Bel Air show. If Gobankingrates.com is to be believed, he had to give 75% of his income to the IRS.
In 2007 Nicolas Cage found out he was in $6.6 million tax debt owing $6.27 million in back taxes and $400,000 from another federal tax lien.
Rush Hour star Chris Tucker owes more than $11 million in back taxes to the State of California and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), according to reports that surfaces last month.
In addition to a $3,594,409 lien against for failure to pony up in state taxes, Tucker also owes the IRS $11,571,909.26 in federal taxes for the years 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006, PopCrunch.com revealed.
And finally, the man with the biggest celebrity tax debt, Blade actor Wesley Snipes.
Snipes was charged with conspiracy to defraud the U.S. government, filing a false claim for a $7 million refund and failing to file tax returns over six years starting in 1999 that totaled $15 million.
He was arrested and eventually sentenced to three years in jail.
